As of today's update (Semptember 7th 2018), the game started running super sluggish and slow for me, no matter how much stuff I turn off. I have it on the lowest resolution possible, V-Sync is off, multisampling and antialiasing are at x1, which is as low as they'll go, particles have to be at "Limited", because if I set them to "Off" I can't see what's highlighted in the menus... also, still no key remapping available.

This whole thing is a mess. The game worked way better for me on release, when it actually felt closer to the 128 MB generation game it is, before all the updates started pushing the graphics settings up until the point you can't play it on an old computer anymore. All I wanted was to be able to play the game exactly like it did on the Gamecube, low resolution, and all, while being able to configure the keyboard and mouse the same way I can do with Psychonauts or Rayman 3. Sadly, what I got was a bloated game that gets more and more demanding with each update, while still not adding proper keyboard and mouse support.

I'm uninstalling this thing. I still cherish the GCN version I can no longer play, but this PC version is a travesty. If GOG had a different refund policy, I'd be asking for a refund right now.

Best of luck working on this, though.

[EDIT] While I do wish to keep my original post, because I still stand by everything I said, I also want to say I sincerely apologize to Swyter, because ever since the game was released and I was disappointed by the state it was in -- namely the awful state of the keyboard & mouse support -, all I've done with every major update is bitching and moaning about the state of the game. I know I've been rude many times, and I'll probably react the same way again when the next patch still gives no keyboard & mouse remap customization while "improving" the technical side of things and making it less and less playable on my computer. I do apologize for that. I'm passionate about this game and, please, try to understand this is not the state I wanted it to be.

I know a few, more "tech minded" people the dev hangs around with are extremely happy with what he's been doing in terms of technical stuff, but I'm one of those who just wanted to play the game on PC, exactly the way it looked, with decent keyboard & mouse support.

Options should be given to those who can afford running this game with the most contemporary graphical fidelity as they possibly can, but customers who love the game and just wanted to be able to replay it as it was, after all these years, on their platform of choice, shouldn't be hindered in the process.

Every time a new update is released, I get my hopes up, just for the game to become more unplayable for me, because of the increase in system requirements that comes with all the technical stuff that's added, all the while the supposedly "high priority" keyboard & mouse support addition keeps getting postponed indefinitely. So, please, do try to understand my frustration and why I tend to make these rude, harsh and "disrespectful"* posts. I just wanted to enjoy the game on PC, and that goal seems farther and farther away with each update.

* - Though my posts may come across as disrespectful, that's really not my intention. And as for me being "entitled", well, maybe I am. I paid for this game. The full launch price, with the 34% off discount it had. I would have paid for it even if it hadn't a launch discount, that's how much I love this game. I'm not pirating it, I'm a legitimate customer, and my money is worth as much as anyone else's. So, yeah, I work for my money and when I decide to spend it on a superfluous product such as a video game, I expect to be "entitled" to a product that works remotely the way I want it to, especially when I have the original version as a means of comparison.

Noted. You are right in that I tend to cater to the people that give me feedback, especially on the game's Discord, as you have noticed. It may sound surprising but I often have to go fishing for game opinions and bugs around the net, because people tend not to contact the developer directly. Posts like yours are rare.

In the Steam version we have most of the old versions listed as betas and can be easily rolled back if needed: https://steamdb.info/app/606710/depots/

About decreased performance, I recommend deleting or renaming the _bin_PC/texoverrides folder to get rid of all the HD textures. That should do the trick to reduce the video RAM pressure on integrated cards. Other than that I don't think I have added anything particularly consuming graphics-wise lately. Let me know if that helps.

If you join the Discord server I may be able to give you more fine-tuned feedback. A few days ago I created a specific build for a player that had particle issues due to buggy Intel drivers. If you care about the game maybe it's worth a shot: https://discord.gg/eCwZejY

I appreciate the honest rant, things like this give a different perspective when you find yourself bike-shedding on less important things that are more 'interesting' from my modding background.

I have been slow with the keyboard support. In retrospective I should have been more iterative instead of trying to get everything right in one delayed patch. No excuses.

Thank you for the reply, in spite of the perceived "bile" in my OP. It means a lot, honestly.

I tried renaming the texoverrides folder, got rid of all the HD textures and now the game runs great, thank you for your help!

As for joining the Discord server(s), or the Steam forums, I've been on all of them, but I generally just end up lurking, because I don't feel like being a negative Nancy, when everybody in there seems to be happy with the state things are in. Also, in one of the Steam threads, someone asked about the keyboard & mouse remap options, and a regular was quick enough to dismiss the post, telling the poster to be patient and calling him "entitled". Honestly, I don't feel like the more "hardcore" communities in gaming are welcoming at all; people tend to become very protective of the things they love and know a lot about, which I somewhat understand, but it makes interaction extremely hard. That's probably why you don't see posts like mine a lot. People are afraid of engaging in conversation or telling you about issues or asking for troubleshooting, when most of the people around you seem to be so protective of the game and will berate others who aren't so technically inclined, have no interest or background in modding and/or speedrunning. Just food for thought.

[EDIT] As per your recommendation on the other thread discussing the DevTools, I also deleted the Tools folder; it's nice to get confirmation from the actual developer that it can be completely deleted without affecting the game. This one is not on you, to be fair, so let's hope someone on GOG listens to you, this time around, and includes it as an extra, instead of part of the main installation. For the time being, deleting it doesn't seem too bad a solution, but while I don't get data caps with my internet plan, myself, I understand it can be a PITA for some people to have to download the extra 7,5 GB that the Tools take up.
