now the steam version has this (naturally)... but if we buy the gog version, will we have access to the leaderboards??

If not then... well the value of the game will be considerably reduced, as we cant compete with friends and others...
Not an answer sadly, but a related question which might as well get grouped together.

I've read a bit about a daily challenge system which sounds interesting. Will this be possible to participate in with the Gog release? I was somewhat saddened by Retro City Rampage not allowing high scores to be submitted, the scoreboard just showing a Gog.com version notice.

I'm guessing the answer to the first question might also answer the second one.

Edit: Seems the Gog release won't support the daily challenge

Might be rather ominous for leaderboards.

Very unlikely, given that this is a DRM-free release. If that is very important to you, then the Steam version might be the better option.
Sorry GOG, but daily challenge looks so fun that I will probably buy it in Humble Store to get DRM free version + Steam key.
Yeah I also want the Daily Challenge mode and leaderboards, so it looks like I'll have to look elsewhere than GOG for Spelunky. Shame.
Yeah. GOG got screwed on this. But there might be something interesting according to this post: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/release_spelunky/post10
Honestly, while the idea they have for the Daily Challenge is amazing.. I don't think it works well for this game.

The rankings are based on how much gold you get; how far you go, how fast you go, and/or how many enemies you kill isn't factored in. This doesn't sound like a bad thing on paper, but in reality it results in people ghost-gem farming which is tedius and drags the game out. The game devolves into "how much can you grind out of the game?"

The other problem is that a lot of people are cheating by watching streams of people doing daily challenges, or using multiple steam accounts; both of which defeats the purpose of the challenge.

Yeah, I ultimately bought the GOG version, because screw drm.

Yeah but now I'm annoyed cos the latest version backup saving messes up with my manual clouding. Any way to deactivate that backup option?
