Guys, I'm planning to gift this game to a friend of mine, who doesn't know anything about it.

But my biggest question is concerning to a certain introductory scene when the credits start rolling. At the end, the game addresses the player with its username as "Special Guest".

Now the question is clear as this worked previously on Steam: Does this version still address the player? If so, does the game need to have GOG Galaxy active for this to happen?

I don't want to miss this chance and gift that friend of mine a game that, in words of youtuber Raycevick in his retrospective, "not everyone will praised... but everyone should play".

I can't confirm this but I'm very sure that you need to have GOG Galaxy running to make this work because that's the only way to have the game be connected to your GOG account.

Guess I gotta find that out myself. I was also considering getting a copy before gifting it to that person.

Do not wait too long as you may only buy a single game copy a day so you need two days to buy two copies.
