in the promo videos it's mentioned there is a linux (and mac) version of this (and other indie games)...

is there any possibility that the linux version will be added as an optional download?

not integrated in the gogdownload, with no guarantee of functionality from goog etc...

simply available to download and use if i buy the gog (windows) version?

or at least a possibility to require some acces to it from the maker?

and ideally the same for any game with a linux counterpart (like darwinia)

Spacechem works fine on Linux using gog windows version.

You need mono package and depedencies (libmono-???).
After that, you are able to launch spachechem using this commands :

cd "YOUR_WINE_GOG_INSTALLATION_PATH/Program Files/GOG.com/SpaceChem"
mono SpaceChem.exe
The trailer is the same video as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gk8JwvtVs38, the original SpaceChem trailer. The previous poster is probably right - the instructions for the Linux version found on http://store.zachtronicsindustries.com/product/spacechem essentially tells you to run the Windows exe through Mono. That said, I'd want to hear from any other brave souls who have already tried this
Hi.

Works beautifully under linux. Use wine to install the game, then take the install files and move them wherever you want.

For dependancies you need mono and sdl-mixer and sdl-image (That's all I've had to install but the link above lists a couple of others.)

After that cd into the directory with "SpaceChem.exe" in it and run "mono SpaceChem.exe"

Works like a charm - I'm onto about the fourth world. :)
For me, on Fedora 16, it works almost flawlessly - the only thing not working is recording solution videos - the game crashed every time I tried.

At first it was because of a lack of "rgb2theora" program - there was an .exe with this name in the game directory, so I tried using the version from the Linux demo. Then it started failing with another error ("Write fault on path <game dir>/[Unknown]"), which I wasn't able to correct.

But as I only tried it as a method to saving designs before changes and screenshots work just as well (if not better), I'm not really missing this feature.

Edit: Also, as I've just checked, it isn't working in the Linux demo either (fails with the same error).

Edit 2: It seems it's because the rgb2theora program is 32-bit and I use the 64-bit Fedora version. It would probably work if I installed the 32-bit libraries, but I don't really want it enough to check.

There are no problems with the game itself.

linux version doesn't exist
The only problem I am facing is an unusable fullscreen option due to using two monitors. Game screen is spanned across both monitors so I guess I have to stick with the windowed version.
Thanks to the help in this thread, it's been working for me running "mono SpaceChem.exe" other than the record video as mentioned and maybe one other crash (game state always fully restored when relaunched). I wanted to mention that both wine 1.4 and crossover 12.2.1 gave a general protection fault during setup, but wine 1.6-rc2 worked for setup (this is on Ubuntu 12.04 with wine installed via the wine1.5 package from ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa ). I'd also love to see unofficial linux info shown on the game page (even if just a link to a forum post). Even just mentioning the game engine used for each game (in the fine print even if necessary) would be helpful to make it easier to identify when native versions of the game engine are available. These forum posts are really helpful too, so thanks to everyone who posts info here :).
I'd also like to see it here.
Might be late, but the whole problem with the Linux download is the lib directory.
It seems to be specific to some 32bit distro, so would cause problems for everyone who's not using the same distro and version.
Just deleting the directory makes it work for me, recording included. At most you'll need to install SDL and a couple of other missing libraries, which could be figured from the files that were in lib.
Last I checked, the Linux version was missing the expansion. That was the main reason for using the Windows version on Linux.
