Big problem with the story line. The game was made with the assumption that you played the first one. I have no idea what they all going on about and I don't care. They could have made the story a bit more stand aloneish. And since the first one was never released on GOG, I never even heard about it.

I'm guessing they use all computer generated voices. It sounds like a really bad B-movie with the actors reading their scripts.

As it stands right now, it is playable. Some stations can not be landed upon yet. The biggest game play issue is it likes to crash after making a warp jump. Not so bad at first. About 1 out of 20 times, it will crash. But as you play the game longer, it starts to get up to 1 out 5 times it will crash.

Some serious work needs to be done with their ground combat missions. Enemies just spawn, first to your left, then to your right. Kill them, and more spawn right before your eyes. And occasionally, bodies will disappear before you can loot them. Exploring salvage yards works much better. The enemies are already there and don't spawn. Of course, they can sometimes shoot you through walls.
*I need to re-afirm this* The bad guys are set up to spawn around the player. So, if you land outside of a town that you have to infiltrate, the bad guys spawn around you, not even close to the town. So you are stuck without any cover, surrounded by people wanting to shoot you. And it is SO pathetically arcade style. You kill one wave and another wave spawns, out of thin air. This is also true in a lot of space battles.

The game seems to have some good mechanics. A lot of guilds to join. Complex missions to run. Not your standard go kill, destroy missions. Ok, maybe that, but you may find you aren't killing or destroying the right target. You sometimes have to work your way to your final goal. Sometimes with twists. Unlike most games, the missions, so far, had some thought put into them. I don't know how long it will take before they repeat. The in depth missions I guess are just part of the story line. Not much difference in the generic missions.

Also, this is a level based game. You level up, you level up your ship but the enemies level with you. So, you never actually get any better. You are constantly having to upgrade all the systems in your ship to keep up with your players level because the enemies will outgun if you don't. I prefer more realistic game play. Kinda like, if you want to fight a dragon at 1st level, go right ahead. The dragon isn't going to be leveled down for your convenience. The game is still entertaining and fun. But I wish developers would get away from 1980's based game play. You can make a good game now. We have the technology.

I'm kind of a "I want to play a series from the start kind of person," so it's sad to see the first one isn't here while they work on the second one. Maybe I'll wait a while until it's better baked.
