Is this possible in the GOG version of these games? I dug out my MT-32 on the weekend to give it a go. I messed around with changing the MIDI device in dosboxSQ3.conf, and also with the sound driver setting in DEFAULT.CFG (adding MT32.DRV). I couldn't get any response out of the hardware.

I then tried another version of the game in a vanilla DOSbox install, and the hardware worked perfectly.

The problem with the GOG version is that I can't open the DOS command line and use mixer /listmidi to get the MIDI device number. It's generally 1, but there's no way to confirm if the GOG version is seeing it. And the DOSbox configurator is pretty light on options :/

Any ideas?

[edit] I see from posts like this (I can't post links yet):

gog.com/forum/wing_commander_series/wciii_on_sc55_or_mt32_have_both_connected_via_umone_in_gogs_dosbox_version _no_go

... that there are workarounds using vanilla DOSbox with the GOG game files. But it's a bit hacky and kind of defeats the purpose of buying GOG versions.

Yes you can use the MT-32 with GOG games. The mixer /listmidi command through DOSBox should give you the results you're looking for to see where your MT-32 is assigned. That wouldn't change when running the GOG games.
I assume you're editing the resource.cfg file in the game folder and making sure to have the line soundDrv=MT32.DRV. And that the MT32.DRV file is in the game folder. Then you edited the games dosbox config file and added midiconfig=1

I also recommend downloading this app. This allows you to easily switch your MIDI playback device between Windows Synth and the MT-32. Then you really don't need to add the midiconfig line. Windows will automatically play the MIDI music through the device you select. Don't worry that it says Vista. It runs fine on my Win7 64 bit system.

Late to the thread, but for those times when you don't feel like messing with the whole kit & kaboodle, give Coolsoft Virtual Midi Synth a whirl.
Okie, I decided to setup a dual boot with Windows 10 & Windows 7. The midi selector I posted doesn't work with Win 10, so I decided to try Coolsoft's VirtualMidiSynth. But I can't get it to work with the sierra games. The midi music sounds off. Any tips on how to get it setup properly with the sierra games?
