hi,
i have now 30+ hours in this game and everyone talks about crew here crew there crew everywhere. but it just isnt. the way of getting more crew members must be heavily improved and be waaaaaay more diverse. some say that you _may_ find them on derelict ships. randomly. i searched "thousands" of them. nothing. still having the first 4 and it makes no longer fun. it destroys just everything. those 30+ hours are more than 75% on max time speed while waiting on actions of the crew to be finished (besides, pathfinding and prioritising tasks is on gamebreaking level, too).
why not hire from factions? why not save some from abandoned ships from battles with pirates? i dont get the point...

I found 1 living crew member in my first game. I'm 28 hours in, and i just now found my second. It is quite rare to find members. The 30+ hours sounds like bad luck. I think this is probably by design? Resources are so low having a bunch of crew members might not even help your situation. I generally lose due to power outages or some other important resource.

I'm sure lots of people get to the point where they need more people. However, I've never really felt like I need additional crew members
I always start with 5, but we can start with 10 people.
Of course, if crewmembers get killed or die constantly,
even 10 might not be enough.

And i am kinda sure that it might be possible to add more than 10 crewmembers
by editing the saved game directly.
No, that is not how it's meant to be.

Gamebreaking though? Not at all.

Plus: maybe keep an eye on how you write, m_Global.
You _can not_ have played 50 hours in the game AND searched 1000+ ships.

"(besides, pathfinding and prioritising tasks is on gamebreaking level, too)"
I played the tutorial for 30 days, my first playthrough for 150 and now my second
playthrough for 95 days, none of the issues you mention appeared.

Yes, sometimes Yrol de-constructs something that has to be moved 5 tiles west,
then runs off to some other place, instead of immediately taking the parts and building the
thing anew. 5 minutes later some other crewmember finishes the job.

But, that's the same in RL.
You go to the kitchen, stand around for 5 miniutes trying to remember why you went there,
return to the living room to watch NCIS and 1 hour later the whole flat stinks of crispily burnt Lasagane.
yeah, and "gamebreaking" is the new epic eh?

If you ever managed to get the dwarves in Dwarf Fortress to do what you want, then you would have a completely different view on these kind of games.

If there wouldn't be a constant need for a player to juggle the priorities, then the game would "play" itself.

if we start on argueing about quoted phrases (to mark it exaggerated in order to highlight my point).... well then... discussion makes no longer sense.
how should a game keep me in, when the only thing i do is wating on max time speed. from my point of view it is not well balanced and hence is a gamebreaking thing. from my point of view this game wants to force micromanagement but if you have no freedom of what the crew should do when, it is also gamebreaking. why do i take the word gamebreaking? because it brakes the game for me and not just using a buzzword in a way a random internet character thinks it is hyped somehow in his sphere of tension.
somehow the only resource which lacks in my savegame is crewmen. i had big battles of 5 factions against each other and looting all the stuff took half a day on max ingame speed. i wouldnt call this a game. hacking the savegame to get more crew? hmmm no.
discussions, e.g. about my opinions on possible game dev progress (i know it is a EA game and may change in content and balance in future - but how if not via comments on actual gameplay) saving crew men from other crushed factions ships ... i dont see any.
"when the only thing i do is wating on max time speed."

Objectivity aside: Then you're doin' it wrong ;o) This is not RimWorld where you can have 30+ Colonists.
Even if, look at the UI. Everwhere where crew is listed, it would either be just not possible to list 30,
or very very cumbersome.
And what do you do with 30? Manage 6 ships with 5 crew each? Or just 1 and be boringly unstoppable?

Also: Why is this marked as a question? Only the Developers could answer it.
And their answer would most likely be "This game is in development, who knows what will be added at a later time?"

Addendum:
Or look at Rimworld again, without mods, you are stuck with the most crazy, unbalanced, murderous, weird, drunk, ugly crew ever in any game who will quite possibly all be killed or kill themselves.
Non-Balance can also be a challenging and fun way to play a game.

(For clearance, i personally find RimWorld unplayable without mods that allow you to get rid of addictions, insanity or
Colonists who are, in the face of the situation there are in, make a big fuss about not being able to mop the floor. I can not at all imagine someone could play for 2 years ingame without totally failing or getting new colonists every 6
months)

But i do not see that game as an unplayable or broken. It is how it is meant to be and lucky me.... there ARE people
who feel the same and made mods to make it more enjoyable for me to play.
And the same is already possible with Space Haven and i believe it will be more easy than editing saved games in
the future.

Well, to be fair you are asking questions a feature complete game should be asked. Space Haven is in Early Access for precisely this reason, to get feedback and make new implementations. =)

We just haven't had time to implement more ways to find crew members, or balance it all. Currently you can get them by finding someone asleep in a hypersleep chamber aboard a derelict ship, or by taking other crew members captive and converting them to join your crew with time.

Your post is now one point of feedback, which we can use!

Well technically speaking space haven does actually allow you to make multiple ships, so yes I would probably consider having 30+ crew members and a very large fleet of ships, now that I really think of it. space haven also allows you to press a button that shows how many crew members are displayed, because I think bugbyte thought that it would eventually happen where a player would get so many crew it would cover the whole screen with crew icons. When I noticed that detail I was like "whoa.... at some point we will actually have much crew, very interesting"

very cool actually
@AdmiralGeezer, thank you for your feedback, taking my feedback of the game into consideration. if it felt, that the feedback was "understood" as if it would relate to a finished game, thats not my intention. yes, i know that it is EA and thats why i'm posting stuff to point on imbalances (no matter if they are fixed straight ahead - thats not my intention and i know that SW development doesnt work like this) or other improvements/features, where i feel some polishing work must be done.

@Yrol, yes, i, from my point of view on and how i understood this game, want to rule the galaxy to the maximum (ships and crews and crews and ships - maybe with some downsides making it real hardcore). sure, reaching this step in the game should be somewhere in the mid to end of the game and be difficult.
that would be my idea of the game but its up to the devs, into which direction they wanna put it in. we are just giving impressions to be or not to be considered.
and yes, i know and have played rimworld, with mods. but i never got it to the escape because of running out of time and lust for it (i still enjoy streams playing it).
