If I was awesome, it wouldn't have been crashing in the first place. :p

But thanks, and I'm glad it's working for everyone again now. (Hopefully... I'm pretty sure saying that is a certain way to cause something else to break. :p)

You have been on this issue, hard, since it first arose and your communication has been excellent, better than other supports I've come across AND you fixed the issues, bonus. You've earned the title 'awesome'.

I'm surprised your shown rep is so low, especially considering how long you've been here and the rep of others who do nothing but forum sit... Christ, even I have a star, lol.

GOG give this guy a star. :D
Sorry to be mood breaker but where's the solution? :(

I believe you just need to re-download and reinstall the game and choose DirectX6 to fix the issues. GOG (Timeslip) upated the code.

It's a fabulous game, so enjoy! (I believe I was the first to "wishlist" it here on GOG. ;) )

Good luck!

Ah, good to know! :)
Great! Tnx a lot, Timeslip!
yep, I can confirm that I was finally able to get past a point that was crashing consistently.

many thanks Timeslip!
If it was crash free, then why won't it even start? It always crashes at startup. I already tried all the solutions floating around, nothing worked, always crashes with a fatal error.

Looks like I'm not alone by looking at some posts.
Will this solution work for Windows 8 as well?

Fatal error at startup. Yes. I've tried every configuration on the pulldown. Cleaned it off my hard drive, scoured my registry, re-downloaded, reinstalled...repeatedly. No dice. Any other ideas?

Hola!

Did you try installing on C drive? Try installing to C:\Soulbringer.

Make sure to try to change the Video to DX7 or DX6 using the "soulbringer.exe" in the game folder. Also change the "soulbringer.exe" properties for compatibility mode to Windows 95, not the shortcut, the actual "soulbringer.exe" in the game folder. Also try resolution 1024x768x32 in the video menu if others won't start.

See if that may help. Just some ideas :).
Well, I'm running Windows 7 and have a Radeon HD 6950 graphics card. At first, I just couldn't get the game to launch at all. Installed it, double-clicked the shortcut, nothing.

Thanks to a few others posts here, though, I finally figured it out. Since I guess a few others might be almost as stupid as I am, here's what I did, step by step:

1. Find the Soulbringer.exe file (and not, as others have already correctly mentioned, the shortcut).
2. Right click on it, choose "Properties", and the properties window will pop up. There, click on the "Compatibility" tab.
3. In the compatibility window, choose to run the program in compatibility mode for Windows 98 (Windows 95 also works). In the same window, in "Settings", you can leave all options unchecked. Finally, at "Privilege level" (again in the same window) check the "Run as administrator" option. Click "OK" to leave the properties window.
4. Now doubleclick Soulbringer.exe. If all's well, the Soulbringer launcher window will pop up. Here, you can experiment with various video settings.

Now, I'm not quite out of the woods yet. For example, the text in the game is difficult to read. However, the game does run!

That's pretty much what I just said a few hours ago :p.

For the text problem, you could try lowering your screen resolution to match the games before you start, it may help. Just an idea though :). It's another trick to know for olde game troubleshooting.
