I just purchased this since it went on sale. I install it, I click play, nothing happens.

I search Google and I find this forum post, #77, apparently I am experiencing the exact same problem:

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/general/new_release_soulbringer/post77

"First, does 1920x1080 work? Second, on video. HAL, T&L HAL or "Your GPU" the right choice. All doesn't work for me. When I press play nothing happens. The speedy graphical test I can run passes though.

EDIT: Ha! I found a solution. I can't believe it. You need to add the .exe file to DEP list located in performance tab under advanced settings. The only time I ever had to use this was to play a mod called 2027 for Deus Ex. Anyone that has any issues with starting the game should try this."

I'm interested in trying this solution, but I don't exactly understand how.

Am I to add an .exe file extension to this "DEP list"? I can't find it.

I'm attaching an image of the launcher settings, specifically the advanced options.

Ah, what would I do without Google.

So I think by "DEP" is meant Data Execution Prevention.

Now, there are 3 executables:

Soulbringer.exe
SoulbringeVC.exe
SoulbringeVCnoeax.exe

I'll add the first to the list, reboot my PC and see what happens
I actually added all 3 executables to the list for good measure, attempted to run the game upon reboot and was not successful.

I'm running Windows Vista.

Any ideas to get the game to start would be appreciated.
Hey republic101,

same problem to me here. I'm running Vista, too. I bought the game during the last promo and wanted to try it now. The installation ran fine, the language tool opens, but the game won't start at all. Looking at the task manager, I see a process "SoulbringeVCnoeax.exe", but it seems to have no effect.

Are there others with the same problem out there? Maybe Vista is the problem? Any hints?
Update: I contacted the GOG support. Although they just sent some general tips, I got it running now with the compatibility modes. Win95 and Win98 work.

Unfortunately, the videos at the start of the game don't work (I just hear some sound). And by quitting the game, it seems to freeze. I get a black screen and nothing happens (waited a few minutes). Finally, I had to kill the process. And by starting again the video preferences are reset...?!

So, at this time the game stays unplayable... unfortunately.
i cant get mine to start either i have win 7 64bit i try compatibility mode as well in 98 and 95 modes and get fatal error lang.dat not found my graphic card is up to date and ive added all 3 .exe to the dep as well oh and my grphic card is ATI Radeon HD 5450 i used to play the game alot when it came out havnt played sense I found the cd's recently and wanted to play again but they were to scratched up so i had to buy it again id love to play it again. oh and also after i try to start it without combatility mode and it doesnt do anything and the prosses continues but not the application the descrption says its NewHWdialog hope that helps u figure out what might be the issue
I had to do a factory reinstall of my computer as I was getting constant blue screens of death for whatever reason and I thought this would be a good time to try out the game again. Everything was the same unfortunately, the game just wouldn't work, until I tried something different.

After ending the game process in the task manager I went into the folder where the game is installed and I clicked SoulbringeVC.exe for the hell of it. It gave me an error of sorts stating a file called eax.dll was missing. So I download that file off the dll-files website and put it in the install folder and I clicked SoulbringeVC.exe again and the game started up. The screen is black for most of the time until I got to the main menu. I pressed escape to skip what I think was a cinematic which I couldn't view.

I just quit the game after being dropped off by the ferryman in the beginning to type this up. Hopefully this helps someone else.

so my processor is at 1.40 GHz and the minimal requirements is 1.80 GHz. Is there anything i can do to still play the game? i really love it, had it for sooooooo long and the cd stopped working :(((((
Okay, this is probably necroposting, but I'm still having problems with getting Soulbringer to run. I have the Steam version, and their forums are extremely useless in terms of being helpful in the slightest. Nothing I do gets the game to run, running it in compatibility modes for 95 and 98 work, but the game doesn't run, it gives me a WIP: build 2000 error, and crashes immediately.

Is there any possibility someone on here can still help me?

I'm running Vista 32-bit, with a ATI Radeon 6670.

And I really ant to try this game.

I would start buying the GOG one first..
Hey there people,

I also had problems running the game. None of the tips helped on my system (laptop with intel hd-win7 64bit).

BUT I stumbled over a solution (at least for me)

What workes for me is using a programm callled Comodo Internet Security Premium (its freeware). It's a free firewall/antivirus solution. Anyway - the program offers a nice gimmick - you can run every software (browser, games, etc) in a sandbox. using this sandbox on the game made it work!

it's no promotion for the Comodo software. I'm also not quite sure, why this works. In the end I can play the game - and that's important, isn't it.

So if you want to use the Comodo software, download and install it. You can find the "run in sandbox" option afer installation of Comodo in your context menu by right clicking on the icon of the game.

hope it helps for some of you too!!

cheerio!
