After purchasing and then going to the Songs of Syx "View Downloads" on GOG website all I see is:

Songs of Syx 0.64.65 331 MB

Firstly, that version is not even correct. When I run the game it clearly says 65.64 in the upper right corner of the main menu screen. Does not inspire a lot of confidence in GOG. (I guess your XX.YY versioning, with XX being the major version even confused GOG/yourself?)

Secondly where actually is the download for the LATEST ie beta version 66.??

I purchased this on GOG to have a simple download of the game that I own forever, and also to avoid the need for Steam client.

I don't want to have to install GOGs lame launcher just to play a simple beta version. The beta simply needs to be available as another download alongside the above.

Please fix this, my first impressions buying this on GOG so far have been less then great.

Thanks

I just read my own comment to an earlier post on this issue a year ago here.

So in the meantime I've downloaded the Gog Galaxy to see if I can actually download the beta 66 that way.

Hi Ash1803.

Welcome to GOG.

Rest assured, when the game is 'finished', you will certainly have an offfline installer file to play with. Don't worry.

Early access games on GOG are handled differently to completed games. Offline installers have to be vetted by GOG staff, digitally signed, etc. Manual labour.

EA games are sort of fast-tracked through via the Galaxy app similar to Steam's beta channels.

It's often not practical to have multiple offline installers produced for minor file changes. Imagine having to re-download Baldur's Gate 3 every time a few lines of code got updated @ 120 GB a pop or whatever!

Yes, this game is only 300 MB or so, but Jake sometimes uploads 5 or more builds per day. :)

You won't be using the word 'stable' for this game any time soon., especially at the beginning of a new .XX iteration (0.66 atm).

So, there isn't anything to 'fix', I'm afraid. That's the way EA games work here. You chose the wrong game to get involved with if you want stability and offline installers.

I don't touch Galaxy with a barge pole. I have Jake's awesome game on Steam, because there's ways around Steamworks, if you know how, and play 99% of my library offline, so the beta channel there for this game is slightly more convenient. Plus, his game is DRM free anyway.

You'll find the vast majority of games on GOG spend little time (if any) as 'builds' in Galaxy and end up as offline installers very quickly. EA games are an exception and Songs of Syx is an exceptional exception. ;)

HTH?
