I was looking forward to playing the game after not touching it for a couple of months but was unable to, since the download stops at 92% consistently. I repeatedly tried to abort the download and restart it only to see the same result again. The game shows up in my folders but crashes instantly in the main menu, if I try to start it anyway.

If this is a known issue, I would appreciate a guide to fix it.

I have this same issue with the game. I even visited the Songs of Conquest Discord and was told it was a problem on GOG's end.
