Just installed this on Win 10. When I try to start the game, I get this message:

---------------------------
Exception
---------------------------
Texture or surface size is too big (esurface.cpp, 129)
------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

After pressing OK in the message, the game is gone. Is there any way to correct the game settings BEFORE ever running the game?

having the same issue
Do you people have enough VRAM, that is memory on the graphics card? If integrated, you may need to add more via the UEFI (or BIOS if ancient pc). They use part of the system RAM so you will have less of that if you allocate more for the graphics.
I have the same issue...
Reduce the resolution with compatability modes and change the resolution in-game to something other than desktop if you can't.

Re-living this nostalgig game, to get it working myself, here's what I did;
1) Change desktop resolution to 1920x1440 or lower, working on Windows 10.
2) Change the 'Soldiers.exe' to run in Compatibility mode = Windows XP (Service Park 3).

Hope that helps someone.
I have the same issue. Nothing works. :(
