There seems to be an issue with the GOG-Downloader.
I downloaded Soldiers through it (multiple times by now, and checksum fits, so it's not connected to some transferring errors) but the part file which is created during the downloading process is not changed into an executable setup after the download is finished.
So the problem is propably not with the installer itself but rather with the GOG-Downloader program; but on the contrary other games which I downloaded through it are working fine (meaning their temporary part files are converted into executables just fine).
Maybe the issues is connected to the file size?
An additional option in the GOG-Downloader to check existing part files might come in handy (I also lost whole not completed downloads to some errors and the automatical reset of the download and its temporary file afterwards - with one being 1,3gb of the 1,4gb needed).
In the meanwhile I'm trying to download the file directly through the homepage; just wanted to make sure the problem is noticed.
Edit: Just rechecked the md5 checksum of the latest download and the code matches. So I thought, if the code matches then the actual content of the file must be the same as the one in the setup and the GOG-Downloader is not actually converting anything - it just needs to rename the file extension. Rather embarassing that I didn't think of it earlier...
So if you have the same problem with no executable setup file, just rename your temporary download file for soldiers to whatever.exe and it should work.
Just consider this as a bug report for the GOG-Downloader (because the actual renaming did NOT happen in the case of Soldiers (and I tried multiple times...) but other games were renamed correctly when finished). Not a big issue but a bit inconvenient for the less "initiated".
