Somewhat recently I purchased SoF 1 on GOG because it was on sale. When I was watching a review of the game on Youtube by Gmanlives he mentioned that the best way to play the game is to install Community Edition. Pcgamingwiki says that CE is a mod that you install over the base game to make it work on modern computers, while the community site says that CE is the full SoF Platinum Edition with SoFPlus and a few other tweaks. So, what is SoF Community Edition? Is it just a mod or a free (pirated?) version of the game with pre-installed mods?

I think it's some kind of pirated version for comfort reasons. I use it as I have the original CD release and couldn't get it to run on Windows 10 (Worked till Win7 though). Still I think it's piracy if you don't own a legit version of some sort (GOG/ STEAM / CD).

SoFCE combines the the base game with SoF Plus and additional Patches and mods to make it playable on modern systems with higher resolutions and it makes multiplayer again.


@GOG: Would be nice if I could buy the game off GoG as my CD is really old by now. But it's not available from my German IP....
