Trying to get through SIB1, but the whole level has been a nightmare. The render distance is too low, enemy NPCs can fire when well out of sight, which has led to many cheap restarts. I'm not sure if this problem is specific to my copy, but I need to know if there is a way to maybe reconfigure the game to resolve this issue.

I am using SOFPlus+ running at 1920x1080 with settings at (mostly) maximum values

Here are some specs although I doubt they are the source of the issue

CPU Ryzen 5 1600
GPU NVidia Geforce GTX 1060 6GB VRam
8 GB DDR4 RAM

Having exactly the same issue now, the two snipers in their towers are the worst. Playing on a high difficultly, so two hits is dropping me dead. Would love to know if there is a fix / way around.
I've had this exact same problem as well. Couldnt complete on "Challenging" difficulty because of this annoying glitch.
I tried playing with the different CVAR from within config.cfg, but none allowed me to fix this. Very annoying
Nice to see several people enjoying the single player (albeit with problems) - ill ask around to see if/how those fogmode cvars can be used (but i have my doubts... the fog is usually built into the map itself.. but.. who knows, ill get an answer )
Ok so i asked user d3nd3 @ sof1.org and he says its gl_fogdensity cvar. set it to 0. see screens below , before and after

gl_fogdensity 0

back to normal:?

gl_fogdensity -1

ghl_obj_fog 0
means that fog is not applied to ghoul models.

gl_fogdensity 0.0
no fog
gl_fogdensity 1.0
full fog
gl_fogdensity 0.5
half fog

if you don't want to see render glitches by removing fog
you can disable 'vis' of map with :
r_novis 1
our pc are powerful enough to handle this at this year.
The low view distance is intended in that level. You should equip the night vision goggles to be able to see enemies.

*FACT CHECKED*

Please ignore this fake news (see pics below)

*Goggles apply fullbright - which does NOTHING to view distance

I've not said that the goggles change the view distance completely. You still need to be within a certain range to be able to see enemies when you use them.

For example the part with the two towers. When you reach that part there is a small pit on the left side where you can take cover. In normal view you still can't see the enemies in the towers from there but when you activate the goggles you will see them and then it's easy to take them out (e.g. with the sniper rifle).
