I bought the game to play online hoping there would be a small community playing. I updated to the latest patch and I can now see all of the multiplayer servers but all I get when I join the servers 100% bots, no real people at all. Every time I go into a server I ask is anyone not a bot and when no one answers I leave.

I am regretting buying this game now. Surely there has to be some active servers with real people playing? I don't understand why people pay for servers to have a bunch of bots playing.

I used to play the servers regularly about 10 years ago and they were starting to empty out as new games took over, even back then. Shame, as the random generated maps were great.

Odd that some are still running, if just full of bots. Perhaps they have been forgotten, running in some dark corner of an old server?

Servers with real players do still exist !
Our clan m8 (click here) often has regular players on-line mostly in the evening.Our server is in London but we have players from a lot of different countries including the US. Although a lot of players are on Silver we're running Gold Double Helix still using our configuration from 2011.

All depends what you like playing. Most servers are predominantly CTF. Ours is mainly DM but we organize monthly sessions with a mix of different gametypes.
If you want to know if you're playing with bots or not it's simple - all bots have a zero ping ! They're also deaf so no good asking them anything ! :))
I've seen some servers also having bots with pings and even automatic chat messages when they get shot so maybe more difficult to tell the difference between them and a real player for a noob!

Yes along with all the standard MP maps in DM or STQ (caserun DM mode) and SP (Single Player).
55 in the standard cycle. For our sessions it's customs only (about 10 maps)

Hi. I played this game in College when it first came out. I have a bunch of friends that would love to get together and play online, but everytime I try to join a server the app crashes. Also, if I try to start a new server, I just enter a game. Is there a tutorial on the multiplayer version of this game? Thanks for your help!

I suspect you are running Windows 10, in which case you most likely need to rename your sof2mp.exe file to mohaa.exe and or run it in compatibility mode for XP SP2.

Sounds crazy, especially the renaming but it's worked for many people.

If you're still having trouble you could try joining the official sof2.org Discord server and reach out for help there.
