I was just wondering if there's any difference between the retail release (once patched) and this new GoG version. Don't get me wrong I was super excited to see them finally available on GoG but I still have my retail copies of SoF1/2 ('Collectors' and Gold respectively) and was wondering if there was any reason to pick up the GoG version over just reinstalling my current copies (besides the convenience and no DRM factors ofc) eg: did they do anything to ensure compatibility with newer OS's/hardware?

I'm curious about this, too. I have a boxed retail version of the game, but I've got lots of trouble in regards to compatibility. It was a long, drawn-out fight getting widescreen to work properly, but I ultimately lost the battle to broken gamma settings. The game's brightness locked to some absurdly low setting and refused to budge, even through console commands, rendering the game unplayable.

I'm hoping this version has compatibility tweaks. I'd consider buying it if so.

I wouldn't be sure, since GOG's version is 1.07f, the latest beta patch which was already available for the retail version, and it does not solve widescreen issues etc. which the SoF+ mod does.
It's the same version minus the "CD KEY" part. I have the retail version of SOF 1 and 2 (also payback....). I got SOF 1 and 2, from gog, because it is more handy to have them digital as well and no need to have the backup files or the cds.
