I would also like to know this... Full screen seems to be enabled by default and enabling/disabling the "full screen mode" does nothing as far as I can tell (even after restarting the game).

Basically the game is always displayed in the center of the screen with a stars/black background around. Is there a way to enable regular windowed mode where only the game window would be shown on the desktop without the black background?

If it helps, I'm playing on a laptop in 1366x768, Win7 64-bits.

Actually it is not real "windowed mode" but it works and you can even play the game at work.

Looks like it works, thanks a lot! There's still a black box in the top left corner and the game window cannot be moved but at least I can see the desktop and multitask now.

Does enabling/disabling the "Fullscreen mode" do anything for you? I'm not sure if it's a glitch but even after restarting the game I can't see any difference.

Does nothing for me. Only the method described above works. Maybe D3DWindower or DxWnd can help.
Ok so I've raised the issue on the Steam forum since the developer reads the threads there, he is considering implementing a real windowed mode through an update but he wants to know if enough people are interested first.

If you've got a couple of minutes, feel free to confirm you want this too:
