Hey everyone,

since we aren't always able to reproduce all issues that players report,
we have prepared a debug version of Smelter for players that encounter issues like having
a black screen when the game starts or issues with saving or crashes.

For players who have any of those kind of issues, we would highly appreciate if you would
give the debug version a try.

The password to the beta channel is "rZbCcNfD".

Just in case for people who don't know how to access a beta channel:

(In the GOG Galaxy client)
Click on the settings icon right next to the button which says "Play".
Hover "Manage installation" and click on "Configure".
You'll get a new menu where the first entry is "Beta channels" and it should say "Disabled"
by default.Click on the dropdown and select "Change private channel password".
In the new pop up enter the password "rZbCcNfD".

After clicking on the "OK" button, the GOG client should update the game accordingly.

This version already contains all the updates that we've applied to Steam 1.0.6H1.
However, this version isn't meant to be used for playing the game but to check what
causes the issues you encounter.

In 1.0.4 and prior we were always expecting to get a GOG-User-ID but that's not the
case and if not the save files where stored at a wrong location.

Before starting the debug version, we highly recommend to make a manual backup of
you save files first! Just in case.

Those can be either found at:
C:\Users\#username\AppData\LocalLow\XPlus Games\Smelter\Savegames\#goguserid\

or in your game directory if you had the issue that we are trying to fix with this update.

The debug version includes a fix for that and the new correct save locations are the
following:

When GOG-User-ID is available:
C:\Users\#username\AppData\LocalLow\XPlus Games\Smelter\Savegames\#goguserid\

When GOG-User-ID is unavailable:
C:\Users\#username\AppData\LocalLow\XPlus Games\Smelter\Savegames\GOG\

In the current (2021.05.05) debug version we are checking for wrong placed save games
in the game directory which may got there due to an issue in the game version 1.0.4 and prior.

Since the debug version may move save files under some circumstances, we would like
to explain in detail what may happen with your save files.

What this version does:
On start up, we check the game directory for existing, wrong placed, save files and look
at the correct place if there are already any existing save files as well.

Then we go through each wrong placed file and check if we have a correct placed save
for the coresponding in-game save slot.
(eg. you may have a wrong placed file for slot-2 and a correct placed for the same slot)

Next we check which's modification date is more recent.
The older file will be moved to a back-up folder and the latest file will be moved to the correct path.

In case the correctly placed file is the latest, we move the wrong placed file to a back-up
folder at:
C:\Users\#username\AppData\LocalLow\XPlus Games\Smelter\Savegames\#gogUserID-or-GogFolder
\WrongPlacedSave_AutoBackUp

In case the wrong placed file is the latest, we move the correct placed file to a back-up
folder first, and then move the wrong placed file to the correct location.

The back-up folder for older but correct files is at:
C:\Users\#username\AppData\LocalLow\XPlus Games\Smelter\Savegames\#gogUserID-or-GogFolder\SaveFix_AutoBackUp

If you are able to reproduce an issue with this debug version, we would really appreciate if you could send
us the "Player.log" file via your prefered way!

That file can be found at:
C:\Users\#username\AppData\LocalLow\XPlus Games\Smelter\

We are really sorry for the inconvenience and any issue you have encountered so far.
We are working hard to get rid of them asap!

Thank you very much for your help and feedback!
