yeah, on Win10 I solved the startup crashing with the D3D patch and Peixoto's.
but I got to the last few levels and encountered enemies (similar in appearance to slave zero iirc) that apparently would cause the game to crash whenever they got shot at.
What
seemed to work for me was using what I assume is the most powerful weapon in the game, Blackhole Gun of some kind?, and use the splash damage from that to kill the enemies while not firing directly at them / not looking at them.
although I think I had to use a "level win" cheat on mission 13, though close to the end of it.
A shame the enemy AI couldn't be
toggled on and off with the cheat, afaik it would just
stay off. And some of the "/debug" cheats don't seem to work.
Anyway, try saving your Blackhole Gun ammo for those enemies, or perhaps just skip the last few levels until you encounter the final boss.
DreadMoth: I think the crashes are related to
this type of enemy - for me the crashes first occurred at the start of Upper City A fighting two of this enemy type. I managed to get past it by destroying them at long range with the CR-80 "Cyclone" Saturation Cannon. Using missiles on them seems to pretty much guarantee a crash.
Unfortunately there's more of them in Apocalypse A and B, and one encounter (two of them at each end of a hallway in the catacombs) always crashes no matter what I try. ...
Okay I think this is basically what I ended up doing :p
