Am I the only one that liked the expansion much better than the original game?
Even though most of the bugs have been fixed in the original, in my opinion it still feels like a game that was rushed out the door. Level design is generic and lacking special touches and attention to detail. Enemies are mostly cookiecutter humans, and despite the entire premise of the game being the development of mutants, the few mutants that appear are not very interesting. The story is for the most part nonsensical and dumb, it feels like you are moving through a sequence of disconnected levels rather than following a plot. The gameplay is almost entirely standard shooter stuff, though not nearly as well done as in games like Serious Sam or Duke Nukem.
Wages of Sin is so much better IMO: it features a much broader set of enemies, including many unique and well-designed mutants. The level design is more polished and well thought out, and you visit cooler locations like casinos and ships. The storyline is much more interesting, you really feel compelled to play to find out what happens next, and the banter between JC and Blade is better as well. Gameplay is much more varied, you will find yourself trying to foil jewel heists or chase down a maintenance man based on his radio communications. Perhaps most telling are the boss fights: in the original they are boring and straightforward, while the last boss fight in Wages of Sin is absolutely magnificent.
Anyone feel the same?
