Just to satisfy my curiosity, I played the ill-fated Sin:episode(s) a little bit and remember the antagonist from there being a power mad sexpot named Alexis. (oh is it Elexis...)

So is this the story before that and episodes was supposed to continue it? I do remember the beginning of the game seemed to start in the middle of a story, but at the time thought it's just how it was written, I had never known of this game.

Yes, Sin episodes were meant to continue the story of the original game.
It started with Blade being held by Elexis, he couldnt talk and we never found out what happened to him :(
Yeah, SiN Episodes was essentially supposed to be SiN 2. With that said, SiN 1/Wages of SiN had an ending that doesn't really have much to do with the beginning of SiN Episodes. Any confusion you felt at the start of SiN Emergence was also felt by those that had played the original games. The main reason to play SiN Gold story wise would be to see how Elexis and Blade became enemies in the first place.
