Hello. I don't know if people have the same problem but when navigating in the game menus, there's some strange sounds bugged very loud.

I tried of course different compatibility modes with the game without any results.

Working as intended. The main menu is making a droning sound while stuff is happening, and when a lot of things are happening there can be multiple instances of these sound effects playing.

It was probably supposed to make the main menu feel like some sort of near future text based terminal like the ones you find throughout the game.

This may not be working as intended. I had a similar issue when I installed the GOG version. Having bought the game on launch back in 1998 I knew it didn't quite sound right.

Solution:

Press tilde to open the console (Key to the left of your 1 key. This may be your accent key depending on region).

Type the following:

set cl_maxfps 60

You may need to be in a level for this to work, I can't remember. This should fix the problem.
