The patcher for v1.11 from here works with the GOG version.

You can still use widescreen resolutions through Nglide Config if 3Dfx Opengl in video settings is untouched. Widescreen patch works only on one resolution at once, don't work correctly on terminal monitors and supports only Default Opengl so no shiny lighting and shadows, filtering effects and whole game tends to be darker in that case.

Sounds like a false positive on your end, that link is from a reputable PC gamer enthusiast site. Try using a anti-virus software that isn't shit like ESET Smart Security or NOD32.
