I know you can install either the talkie version or the subtitled version.
But can't we have both in the same installation?
I have both on my iPhone version.
I like hearing the voices, but my english is not good enough to understand everything without subtitles, and only subtitles is boring.
If you are spanish you can use this http://traducciones-videojuegos.clandlan.net/index.php?page=download&file=AS/Simon1_tradu.7z and get speech in english and subtitles in spanish.

That works in Simon the Sorcerer 2, where you can have either text or speech and you can switch between them, but in talkie version of Simon the Sorcerer 1 there is no subtitles (at least original CD-ROM version doesn't have those, while disk version has text but no speech).

Wait a second, you mean you can get Spanish subs, but not English? I am missing something or it is weird?
This seems to be a third-party modification... and spanish... so I cannot be sure.

There are subtitles... and there is speech. You can play with subtitles or you can play with speech, but not with subtitles and speech. I knew the reason behind this a while ago, something with IDs and strings.

I recommend to play the game with voices and mute the music with 'm' during the talking, this way you will not have any problems understanding what the characters say.
To clarify, the French, Hebrew, Italian and Spanish versions of Simon the Sorcerer 1 (CD) have combined speech and subtitles. I expect this was due to the speech still been English only.

Unfortunately the English & German versions of Simon the Sorcerer 1 (CD) removed many of the subtitles, and even the string ids in the scripts for those subtitles. So there is no easy way to restore the subtitles that are missing.
It is a bit sad that all the voices are on English. Actually, the English voice acting is really good, but so was the Spanish one, and I quite felt like reviving it!. If I manage to get the Spanish voice file: Will I be able to upload or give here so they can include on the Spanish version?
