Hi, after reading the numerous reviews (and actually looking at the game), I was wondering if story-wise, it's ok to skip the 3rd game? What exactly happens to Simon's body etc? Is there anything else important that I'll miss out on knowing if I skip to the fourth game?

Thanks!
I still haven't played through Simon 3D, but I've understood, that the first three games are linked plot wise. Simon 4 is a seperate adventure with no direct plot links, I think as I haven't played that one either.
I'd suggest at least trying to play through Simon 3d anyway -- the graphics may look bad and the game may feel frustrating and buggy at times, but I remember it having a few memorable moments, and the story is also connected to the first two games.
NO! By most accounts, the 4th and 5th games, which were not made by the original creators, are GOD-AWFUL. I haven't played them, but I've heard enough about them to stay away.

As another GOG user basically put it (I'm paraphrasing here): They make Simon 3D look decent.
Start of the Simon 4 makes bit more sense if you know how Simon 3D ends and 3D solves the cliffhanger ending of Simon 2. But other than that you can skip it if you like. However 3D has better jokes, characters and puzzles than Simon 4, which is rather boring and average compared to first three Simon games. 5th game is better than the 4th, although nowhere as funny as AdventureSoft's original Simon games. It's true that Simon 3D has horrible controls and graphics, but despite all that it's actually very fun to play.

First three games represent the fine tradition of British humour, while 4-5 are German games and some of the humour has disappeared in translation.
Simon 4 is alright, his voice will annoy you a lot though - Simon now has an irritating american voice. The graphics are nice, though, and it's point and click again. It's not terrible but not as fun as the first two games.

Simon 3D... the graphics are horrid, but if you like the humor, jokes, and story of the first two - try Simon 3D.

I haven't been able to buy Simon 5 anywhere, so I can't try that to say if it's any good.

They used to sell English version of Simon 5 in Gamersgate, but then the German company which made the game went bankrupt and it seems that they have stopped selling it. There's also a disc version available, but unfortunately it's in German.
I really wouldn't bother with either 4 or 5, they both are horrible, horible games. At least Simon3D had the humour of the first two games, 4 and 5 on the other hand are just horribly written garbage.

I do like Simon 4 for the controls and graphics, however I absolutely hate the voice acting and the lack of humor. Germans don't understand British humor :(
The end of 3 kind of explains where one of the major characters of 4 came from actually.

Do they at least have my beloved German humor? 4 and 5 I mean of course.
