Hello!

Is the soundtrack included in the purchase of SimCity 3000 as lossless audio FLAC format?
I've been looking for the original CD and don't want to purchase MP3s.

Best Regards

There is a way you can convert the tracks to from XA to WAV... All you need is a hex editor and a converter (I managed to do it with VLC!). http://www.sc3000.com/underground/showarticle.cfm?id=1167
Aren't XA music files already compressed?
It makes no sense to convert from a lossy format to lossless.
Small update for those who are curious about the soundtrack.
It is not included in the purchase.

I bought the game here on GOG and the XA music files are very much compressed at 94kbps and are recorded in mono.
So very faaaar from lossless unfortunately. If you're looking for the original soundtrack in decent quality you wont find it here.

However they're playable directly in media player classic (mpc-hc). https://mpc-hc.org no need to recompress them and make them even worse.

Best Regards

Many years ago you could download the music of Simcity 3000 from the website.
It's composed by Jerry Martin and the files from the site where in higher quality than the game itself.
Still not close to good quality though... I still have them in my music library and they are 128 kb/sec mp3's.

I don't know if I'm allow to repost these... they where free to download at the time though.

Edit: there's one music file that is in wav which is 705 kb/sec. It's the menu music loop file (3KLOOP).

Edit 2: Interesting, this site seems to have even more songs than that where listed on the Maxis site. And looking at the file size they're ion higher quality (but that's just guessing).

Edit 3: Mm seems as some of the listed files do have the exact same file size as mine have. I wonder why some are larger.

Edit 4: Starting from number 11 and up are the songs from SimCity 3000 Unlimited. What's interesting is that this collection doesn't include both wav files from 3000 and 3000 Unlimited. But they do include all songs, even more than originally where available on the Maxis site. :D
