smrtgi19: Don't worry I've made backups and I've got cracks which will crack the drm off origin games so they can. Be played offline

JimPhelps: Okay ... be aware that those cracks are borderlining piracy. Also they make it even less likely that the games will work on some future iteration of Windows or whatever is current then. Or rather: it is not really likely that those cracks will keep working on future Windows versions. But of course you know better, right? The question is: If it is all so very easy, why are you even here on GOG? The reason can't be that GOG offers DRM-free games. However that was a rhetorical question. I'm not really interested in an answer. ;) No offence.
well i bought the game dammit, so I can make it work forever

Please don't swear. You may have payed money for the game, but you dont own it. Have you read the EULA? It is surely stated there that you're violating the terms of usage if you modify the program in any way shape or form. So the crack is illegal. Period. Doesn't matter what you think is right or wrong. On that basis you could have pirated the thing in the first place. Don't you get that at all?

By the way something else: you're saying that you can make the games work forever. Okay. Enlighten us. If it's that easy it makes me wonder why the team at GOG has so much trouble getting some of the older games working on current operating systems.

I meant that Mass Effect will never come to GOG.com DRM Free, the team at GOG couldn't even get RealMyst to work on 7, all you have to do is set the compatibility mode to XP SP3

<irony>Ah, that's how ... well, GOG must be really stupid to not have thought of the compatibility setting ... interesting.</irony>
Do you think this compatibility setting will be there forever in all future Windows versions? Just like 16-bit support is still there ... ah, wait a minute, it has been removed from all 64-bit Windows versions.

yes but.... if we keep buying from here and not from origin, we're sending a message to EA that DRM-Free is the new market and will adjust accordingly or die
