I've been wanting to play this game again, but I was wondering if there aren't any improvements to the game out there?

I know OpenSC2k barely got started (and they had that whole Cease and Desist thing going on with EA) and I have never heard of any other similar attempt at a modern port anywhere.

So, no fan patches, widescreen or something else? Nothing?

Given that the version on GOG is literally the DOS version, make of that as you will.
