I've searched the forum and found this question asked before, where the suggestion was to increase the resolution. My current resolution is set at 1280x1024 which is the maximum resolution the game will allow me to set.

It still scrolls across the map crazy fast and it makes playing the game really difficult. Was it always like this and I just got used to it back in the early 2000s, or is this an issue with the newer computers?

Anyway, the post I had found is a bit old, so I thought I'd ask again;

Is there any way to slow down the scrolling to a more manageable level? Is there any mod that can be used to tweak this? Anything?

I solved this problem by using a tool called DxWnd and applying a framerate-limiter to the game, mine runs at 20 FPS and the map scrolls at a normal speed, so finally I could play the game. Just make sure to enable "Expert Mode" on the menu and you're ready to go. There's a ton of options. For the mouse to work correctly, chech the options "Correct Mouse Position", "Release Mouse Outside Window" and "Message Processing something...". I'm making a guide on it soon...
