Hello eveyone on the "Silver" PC game forum;

Does anyone know of a 'fix' for the technical issue that I'm experiencing: Sound stuttering, frozen main menu, no response to mouse input. I'm forced to use task manager or a hard restart in order to exit the frozen game. I sometimes receive a memory allocation error message after 'exiting' the game.
My rig should be able to run this game: Windows XP, Service Pack 3; Athlon 64 4000+ processor; GeForce 9800 GT graphics card; 4,000 Gbyte RAM, dual channel.
I'd certainly appreciate any help that I can get to get "Silver" to run on my PC.
Thanks,
Viajero
Status update:
I've gotten "Silver" to run, but not very well. Current issue is severe sound stuttering, which makes the game unplayable. I've turned the music and ambient sounds to minimal setting, but this has no effect on the stuttering (can still hear it). The stuttering causes the game to be unplayable..
I'm in the process of reinstalling the game, this time without the universal update download. If the sound continues to degrade the game, I'll then download the universal update and delete one of the two sound folders.
If anyone has any additional ideas, I'm keen to try them out (downloading 'older drivers' is not a workable solution).
Thanks,
Viajero
Status update:
After downloading and installing the "Silver" download, the sound continued to stutter. So I reinstalled the universal update and ran the update set-up file inside the "Silver" folder. The game ran normal for about 20-seconds during the harbor introduction scene, then the sound stuttering made the game unplayable. Turning the music and ambient sounds off has no effect, nor does switching from voice dialogue to text dialogue. The game still runs like cra*.
I'm wondering if my Creative Audigy 4 sound card is not compatible with the game. I'll try to disable it and enable the onboard sound. Anyone have any better ideas? I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks,
Viajero

It's quite possible that the Audigy series (or Creative soundcards in general) is causing problems with Silver. Have you tried deactivating hardware acceleration for audio? This does the trick for many games (IIRC this also helped with stuttering in Soul Reaver).

Just in case - here's a guide: LINK

F4llout: Thanks for the link, its straight-forward and easy to work with. I did make the exact same changes (individually and as a group) to the Audio Hardware Acceleration and Sample Rate Conversion earlier today. Unfortunately, the audio changes had no positive effect on the sound stuttering/looping problem. I'll continue looking for a workaround.
Thanks, once again.

I discovered this a minute ago: LINK
Someone else on the GOG forums seems to have had a similar issue. Turning compatbility mode off apparently did the trick for him. Tried that already?

F4llout:
I actually replied to this same link a minute ago (PROBLEM NOT SOLVED). I've attempted running the game in normal windows xp mode, and in compatibility mode (windows 2000, windows 98). The sound stuttering is identical in all three modes.
But I do appreciate your feedback, as it often takes many people thinking things through and working together to solve these types of issues. So, please keep the positive suggestions coming.
