The game is alot of fun, but on the bigger levels it takes an eternity for each AI controlled side to calculate the moves for each soldier. Is there any way to reduce this time, like a patch or an option somewhere?
On this page http://www.strategycore.co.uk/files/silent-storm/mods there is a file called fastmod that increases the speed of the ai which should make the turns go by faster however it's for the Russian version of the game and i don't know if it will work on the English GOG version.

Thanks for the tip! I tried it but the game crashes. The game.db file in the game directory is more recent than the mod version, has probably been patched since. Could be that it's just a value that needs editing in hex editor or something. I don't know much about it, but I'll survive!
To be fair, it is only particularly bad in some missions. It gets tedious, but the only time I was every truly annoyed was a mission where bad guys attack a base and there are civilians AND allied forces.

My suggestion: Do what I do when I play The Old Republic. Keep a comic book nearby and read a bit while waiting for your turn/your resurrection.

Also, save after every turn; that way if something goes wrong you won't rage quit because you have to start the entire 3 hour battle over again.
To bad that the fastmod didn't work was looking forward to trying it, i guess i first will stick to playing vanilla S2 and S3 then i will try playing it with the english mods maybe those work the the GOG version.

If there is no way to speed up turns i would follow Gundato advice and maybe read a book or a magazine at the start of the enemies turn, it's not ideal but hopefully it's only a few levels that are like this.

Good idea! I do save every now and then too avoid this, but I'm starting to feel might I shouldn't. It's getting easier and easier and less and less fun.
