I just realized that GOG added SS to their catalog! I put in a request for this game a year or so ago...not sure exactly how long. SS is my favorite game of all time next to Civ.
I own several disk copies, but have not been able to play the game in years. Well, I did find a work around involving changing something to the SS executable, but their was not fix for Sentinels. And let me tell you, Sentinels (the expansion) is one of the most intense gaming experiences out there. Just wait until you play the base defense scenario. I finally can play Sentinels again!!!
I hope that by GOG adding a playable Silent Storm, that it reinvigorates the SS community that basically died some years ago due to Nival neglect. And with that, maybe an influx of new mods and creative scenarios and games for SS, and maybe some graphic updates.
SS is really a spectacular game with a fantastic engine that died before its time. I believe the graphic engine, due to its nature, still holds up well today. It may not look pretty by today's standards and/or simplistic, but it was so solid for its time and the destructible environments were revolutionary.
Here's hoping a lot of new gamers find there way to SS.
Anyway, a big thanks to GOG!!!
