As Axis member, I played this yesterday and yes it took me all day with massive save/reload.
All the missions before were rather OK, but this one?!? 30+ heavily armed enemies and nearly all at once?
Only afterwards I read on the internet it is better to run to the street and then blow a hole into the wall to get back in somewhere else. The enemies will concentrate on you at the entrance.
Here is what I did and it was rather fun blowing up the whole mansion, but didn't give the wanted result.
As soon as I got control, I ran into the south tower (left from the entrance point of view). Use your snipers (best damage) first and kill the two soldiers inside with a handgun (one of them is an Oberleutnant IIRC). Run with all members into the tower and up the stair or right from the door, last one should be the engineer who closes the door. End turn
The door should still be closed and hopefully intact after the impact of the enemy's SMGs. Run with all members one floor up through the corridor to the next building (I call this room the last stand), there may be one enemy. Last should be the engineer who has to booby trap the door and then also run at least into the corridor. End turn
The tower should completely blow up, leaving the corridor intact. The members in the last stand should now kill 1-2 nasty enemies in the next room above the main entrance. The engineer may now close and booby trap the door to the corridor(if it still exists) behind him and rush to the others. End turn
The corridor and any remains of the tower blow up when the enemy opens that door. The enemies in the next room after the last stand should be dealt with and the engineer can booby trap the door leading outside that room (not the one leading to the last stand you came from), then pose himself behind the closed door to our last stand. End turn
The group should start taking out the enemies trying to enter through the remains of the tower and corridor, the engineer takes an automatic rifle and listens through the closed door to the room that should blow up shortly (maybe throw some grenades into the opening to be sure). End turn
Try to keep alive, bandage inside the room and kill the enemies through the opening on the former tower side. If the engineer hears someone trying to climb up close to the door, open (4ap), kill (~20ap or with grenades ~15ap), close door(4ap). End turn
I never got the cutscene I saw later on Youtube, watching others doing the mission. Maybe Oberst Koch blew up with one of the traps. I failed that part of the mission, but also never saw the escape pot.
Since the building is totally destroyed afterwards, it may be tricky to get to some of the clues.
If you detonate some more floors you should be able to climb up again. Just make sure there is some floor left to climb up from. Don't worry, clues don't blow up :D
