I can't seem to hear any sound effects, ie: shots, shooting etc. I do have voice overs but thats about it. Any suggestions. I have a xonar sound card and a previous post suggested to disable eax, but don't know to do this.

If your soundcard is like any other, it comes with a software where you can adjust the settings, should that not be the case, then you have to go into your Devices manager, look for your soundcard and see if you can change the settings there.

I have a Asus Xonar DGX and have a similar problem. There is only music and dialogue but no sound effects like gun shots, reloading, steps, explosions. During first 2 missions however it did randomly play gunshots.

I did get the game audio working when I clicked the "GX" button the the Asus audio driver tool. No idea what that does but if you start the game when "GX" in the button is white then the game sound effects work fine. When "GX" is gray and you start the game the sound effects don't work.
