The docs are there, but you have to download them separately. Go to your gog Account > Library > Silent Service 1+2. They are in the "bonus content" section.

thank you for responding. I went....again, to the library. it said I was downloading the documentation, maps, clue books.....great, until I right clicked on it. all it does is take me straight into the game/ I went to the library first, yes. and there was no place with the exact words...bonus anything. so I did as I already said & it just took me...straight into the game. sounds repetitious, huh? boy-wee, it is. and nowhere is the manual. there's lots of great games here. I want them, but not having the manual is like buying a soul, without the body. nothing there. .......sigh.......thank you, again.

GOG has changed their layout since I did that screenshot, but if you've found the documentation to download then I think your problem is that you actually *have* downloaded the manuals, but you just can't find them on your computer.

If you are using the gog.com webpage, the manuals will be downloaded to whatever is the default download location you've set for your browser.

If you are using GOG Galaxy, then it has its own location. You can find this by clicking on the little gear in the lower-left hand portion of the Galaxy window (see screenshot1 attached), then near the bottom of the window that appears, look where it says "Download game extras to:" (see screenshot 2 attached).

(*Note that I'm on a Mac, so your version of Galaxy may or may not differ in minor or not-so-minor ways from the screenshots)

ETA: The names of the actual files for the manuals (in case it's easier for you to just do a search of your computer for the files) are:
ss1_manual.zip
ss2_manual_english.zip

dear 01kipper. thank you. as you said they were already there. it said to put them in a file. I just got confused & closed them. anyways, there they are. as I said, thank you for your prompt, courteous & professional reply, I think I'm gonna be able to do this now! yea. uhhh, I did say thank you, right? 8-)
well, looks like I spoke too soon. at the dos prompt , there's gog.com. I was able to unzip the manual for Silent Service 2 and there it was. yea! there's no option for doing the same for Ultima Underworld 1.....sigh......please give me more advice on where I am going to find that manual. thank you

I'm not sure what you mean by "at the dos prompt", what OS are you using? I assume Windows, which is running DosBox to run the game? You don't access the manuals from within DosBox or from within the game. The manuals are most easily viewed on your computer using whatever PDF viewer you have installed, you don't need to have the game open at the same time. The Ultima Underworld 1 manual download is titled "Ultima_Underworld_1_2_manual.zip"

If you're still have problems, it would be helpful to give me detailed step-by-step info as to exactly what you are doing (including file and app names). As I said before though, I'm on a Mac so I can only give you generalised info about what to do in Windows.
Actually, while I'm here anyway, here is the step-by-step list for how I would view the UU1 manual (and is in fact what I did do to find the name for you) :)

1) Start up your favourite web browser
2) Navigate to www.gog.com
3) login to gog.com
(*You've most likely already done these three steps if you're reading this reply :) *)
4) From the "ACCOUNT" drop-down menu near the top of the screen, click "LIBRARY"
5) Scroll down to "ULTIMA UNDERWORLD 1" and click on it. (You may need to go to page 2 or 3 or higher depending on the number of games you own in your account),
6) On the pop-up window which opens, on the right under "GAME GOODIES" click on "MANUALS"
7) Your web browser is now downloading the manuals to the default download location as set on your browser. (In my Mac version of Chrome, this location can be viewed/changed under "Preferences" and then "Show advanced settings" then look in the area titled "Downloads").
8) Go to the folder/location on your computer where the file "Ultima_Underworld_1_2_manual.zip" was downloaded (see step 7 above), and double click on it. It will unzip it (into whatever the default location of your unzipping app is set to, normally the same place where the zip file was).
9) Open the now-unzipped folder "Ultima_Underworld_1_2_manual"
10) Double-click on "Ultima Underworld - Manual .pdf"
11) You should now be viewing the UU1 manual :)

Can you post a screenshot of what you see when you click on "Ultima Underworld 1" in your GOG library (not using GOG Galaxy), that's step #5 above. Attached is what it looks like to me.

No problem, I'm happy that you've figured everything out and can now access the extra game goodies :).
hi again. say, when I bought Silent Service 2 (yes, some of us did buy the games) 8-) there was an overlay that I could put over the keyboard. all the commands were there. even in the instruction booklets, that isn't there. I need that. can u help me?

#2 Wing Commander-takes me to the locker room. mouse seems to slow down. I cannot click on any room to begin the game (opening sequence is there, spaceships shooting each other, then the locker room & nothing more)

#3 Star Control - copyright protection is in place. cant access game any further than seeing galaxies. even on game instruction book, responses for accessing the game (where they were posted when I Bought the game) 8-) they aren't showing up.

Even if u don't solve these problems, I still got to play Ultima Underworld 1 (both instruction book & hint book opened), Master of Orion & Betrayal at Krondor. I would have paid as much as I did when I bought them new. I am appreciate your site. thank you.

#1) SS2 keyboard overlay. It is there in the SS2 "GAME GOODIES" section (as described above). it's called "SILENT SERVICE II REFERENCE CARD". I've also attached a copy of it to this post (although I had to reduce the quality a lot to make it fit, for best results go get it from the GAME GOODIES).

#2) I'm not sure about this one, for best results try posting in the Wing Commander forum section:
https://www.gog.com/forum/wing_commander_series

#3) Similarly, for this question try the Star Control forum section:

I didn't buy the game from GOG, I still have the CD version which didn't come with a proper manual.
If the issue is still relevant, then the only thing you can do is find it online or return the game.

Search for:
"Silent Service 2" or "SS2" and "technical supplement"

The technical supplement contains all the keys for controlling the game and there are quite a few of them. The Amiga version should be enough.
But there are also different manuals with and without "technical supplement".
The box version included keyboard overlays because of the amount of keys needed to play the game.
As far as I remember these were always included for PC-XT, Tandy and Amiga.
I only found the Amiga version on the net, but that should be enough (https://openretro.org/amiga/silent-service-ii/docs/keyboard).
