I finally had to take a break from my attempt at subduing this world, to gather my resources in Alpha Centauri to bring the war to the Na'vi, and realized I'd been playing 6 hours without even realizing it. That is sneaky, Mr. Meier. Very sneaky indeed.

When I get back to it, Mirriam and Yang are going to learn you don't fuck with the Peacekeepers, unless you're a ragtag bunch of misfits on a living ship.
"Please don't go. The Drones need you. They look up to you."

Sneaky doesn't even start to cover it.

Seriously though, I agree 100%. The only Civilization type of game I've ever played was the Civ 4 and it just didn't "grab" me.
Alpha Centauri on the other was gaming greatness for me from the very beginning. I'm not very far in my first "learning" game, but the more I learn and find out, the more I love this game. Definetly deserves all the praise it has gotten.

Thanks to the GOG for another excellent classic I've never played.
I greatly enjoy the quotes the game tosses generously at you. From techs to wonders & buildings. Take your time to read them, and you'll notice they make fun of all mankind, and have a deeper meaning at the same time.
Many are simply ageless, and can be used in arguments outside games.
I have to agree with JHGT. I have played every CIv game since three and each one holds my attention less than the last one, probably because each one strays further from Alpha Centauri.
I like to call SMAC "The thinking players Civilization game". ;)

Yeah I agree on all the points here.
Yes, it is...

I'm relatively new to Civ and 4X games, having been a mostly console gamer all of my life (save the first 2 Fallout games, Daggerfall and MDK). Having in general become pretty bored with console offerings for awhile now, I decided to start exploring PC gaming last year - and that's when I came across Civ V. Now from a novice's perspective, V's pretty dang awesome; I've definitely had my fun with it since its debut. Recently I just finished my first game on Immortal difficulty (Babylon, raging barbarians, huge-random map, epic length), which I had great fun with. But I was starting to want a little more depth and control with my game - and THIS has really fit the bill. I'm still on my first run (read the manual through and decided on University), and it's a freaking blast!

My PS3 is basically a Netflix machine now...
Aah a Peacekeeper's man. Good job.

We are flexible enough to handle any situation.

Drone-teams with drop in capability are just so awesome. You can just flood your imagination of a bunch of special op teams dropping in behind enemy lines!

"Optical computers, genetic catalogs, nanorepair modules--forget all of that. It's when you see a megaton of steel suspended over your head by a thread the thickness of a human hair that you really find God in technology."
