Hello,
Just bought SMAC and I'm getting a problem with the installer... It gives me this error message at the end of installer:

"Error creating registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/App paths/terran.exe

RegCreateKeyEx failed; Code 5
Access denied"

Other GoG.Com games install just fine. I've tried downloading it again. I've tried to run the installer as admin but to no avail.

Also, it seems the size of the installer differs from what GoG.com says (337MB, whereas my OS says it's 319MB, don't know if this is important)

Any help would be appreciated.

I had a different problem with the GOG SMAC installer.
Apparently, this is the only GOG that refuses to install itself to a directory with a "." in the name, like "\GOG.com\". It kinda screws up my \games\ folder because i have to install it to something like "\games\gog com\" instead. ;|
Hmm, I noticed that, the default installer path has the folder "GoGCom" instead of "GoG.Com" and when I tried to correct it to .Com it complained because you can't use symbols like . in it. Hmm. Mysterious. I just hope they get it fixed, hoping to play this one :( Last time I played was a demo of the game years ago.

EDIT: Surprisingly, the installer works on our desktop. I wonder why SMAC installer won't work on my laptop when all the other GoG.Com installers do?

Same issue here with it not allowing GOG.com as a valid sub-directory due to the period.

The Crusader installer doesn't have this issue, so it is something specific to this one.

Did You try to lower the UAC setting? [assuming You're on Vista/7]

[edit]

Also, please check Your antivirus software, adding the installer to the exceptions list should do the trick.

Same exact issue/error. UAC is off. Installer was Run as Administrator. Windows 7.
Well, the game itself works, the installer does not. I managed to get SMAC to work by installing it on our desktop and transferring the game files to my laptop. There's something with the installer just not liking Windows 7 or maybe my laptop only :O

EDIT: I did check my firewall(which had sandboxed the installer) and the UAC settings, though those fixes did not work

The directory thing, there are other games on gog that like SMAC have to be installed to "GOGcom" instead of "GOG.com" because of the ".". Return to Krondor and one of the Tom Clancy games are just the ones i remeber from the top of my head.

Regarding the installer error, the problem is definitely not Win7, that's what i have and the installer didn't gave me any errors.

The error message seems to point to a permissions issue with one of the registry keys (or possibly with new child objects not inheriting the permissions from its parent key)

Well, I got the same error with Kingpin installer... That's odd. I guess I need to setup it again by installing it on our desktop and then moving the game files onto my laptop. That's the only solution I've found for this error. :/
I have given up playing this game as I have WinXP SP3 and cannot even start the installation! All I get is- nothing! I click install but nothing happens...I even left it like that for about 10 minutes and still nothing happens! It is just weird...I cannot even remember if there were any messages when I was forced to close the installation page...I was too damn disappointed and frustrated. I just choose to give up and move on to other games...
Well, this is an old topic now, but stayed for some reason in my forum topic highlights and I found the problem I've been having with installers - my firewall's (Comodo Firewall) sandbox feature apparanently blocked the installer, even while being offline... It just kept adding certain installers into the sandbox even if they were removed from the sandbox list and even if the sandbox was disabled. The only way I managed to get my installers working was to uninstall Comodo...
