I was wondering if anyone knew of a better way in regards to movement as I am using a mac book laptop and cant move my guys diagonally? Is there a way you can play around with the controls at all?
If you mean remapping the keys, you'll likely have to use an external program for that. As far as I'm aware, there is no way to remap the keys within SMAC or through config files. You should be able to move a unit diagonally using the touchpad. Unfortunately, it isn't quite as fast as using a real number pad.

I just started playing on my macbook and can only move diagonally... :\ I was trying to move to a certain tile and couldn't get to it due to my restricted movement. Seems like I'll be looking for a way to remap keys.
You know, you know, use a wireless mouse?

I hold the mouse button down on whichever square I want to go to. The character draws a red line from the square its on to the square I'm indicating I want it to go to. When I release the mouse button (well, trackpad on my MBP) it goes there.
