Hi!

Im trying to run this game on windows 8.1 with an i5 4670k and a GTX 670.

However in game my framerate is terrible, dropping to around 12fps. I've tried looking for solutions and the only 2 I could find where turning on single-pass multi-texturing and changing the 3D card to the nvidia Riva TNT but neither of these solutions have had any impact. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Unfortunately, the problem is that Shogo isn't really compatible with Windows 8. (Note that its gamecard only lists Win XP, Vista and 7)

If I am not mistaken, this issue stems from the removal of actual DirectDraw support from this iteration of Windows. The OS now just seems to emulate ddraw, which results in rather shoddy performance.

The only real fix for this is to use the software renderer, which will make the game look significantly worse, but at least it should be playable.
I found something meant to fix this problem for NOLF, but it may also work for Shogo.

Here's the page:

Scroll down to the section: Windows 8 only – DirectDraw FPS fix

I haven't tested it, but supposedly you just unpack the dll file and put it into your game directory. If that doesn't work, you may be able to find another ddraw.dll file somewhere else that does help.

As always, use virustotal to scan the file before using it.
I checkmarked everything under "Advanced" > "Enable". Didn't fix borders, but framerate is about normal.

GTX 760, i5-4570, Win 8.1.

This worked for me concerning the borders.
@Hudfreegamer

I've tried that ddraw dll from the link you provided, turned off lightmaps and had a significant framrate increase in blood2, which has the same engine as shogo.

Someone at another forum tried it and also had a big frame rate boost. Only one person who's tried the ddraw dll for win8 and nolf says it didn't work. Im'm trying to get more testers for this dll but so far, none for shogo.

For the record, I first heard about this from you. Don't be surprised if folks at gog are unwilling to link to an unsupported dll.
