I get really choppy frame rates in The Storm when I hit the open areas in the underground facility. I've got all my settings on max and high and full res, so I'm guessing there's something in there that's causing the problem.
Anyone got any solutions for it? Here are my specs:
3GHz Intel Dual Core
3G RAM
GeForce 9800 GTX
XP

I had the same slowdown a the same area. The setting that fixed it for me is turning on.
Advanced: Enable single-pass multi-texturing
I also set the vidio card to a TNT2 since that's probably the closest setting to our newer video cards. But, I think the above setting is the one that made the difference.
Thank you, InterFaced. Your solution solved the issue in question for me too.
My specs:-
Core 2 Duo E6400
4GB RAM
Nvidia 8800GT 512MB
XP x64
excellent, it works great now. thank you!
Worked for me, too. Nice.
The game was a nightmare before this fix.
Thanks!

InterFaced: Advanced: Enable single-pass multi-texturing

Cheers much! The stuttering I was having was awful before enabling this.
Big thanks from me too! :)
Just an update, Enabling single-pass multi-texturing on Windows 10 64-bit did not solve my issue with low frames per second, however I turned on all of the advanced options on the right side (including the multi-texturing) which seems to have resolved the lag.

Best solution for me. The game is now silky smooth with my 12gig card and 32gig Ram. To me this game beats Mech Warrior in spades, and now it runs like it should. Thanks for the experimentation and reccomendation.

The game is slightly more unstable, but with the new instruction set it's like it's rujnning on my old Voodoo2 with a passthrough to another Voodoo2 card. Incredible solution. Great job. Thanks again.
