In the British Museum, Watson is supposed to open a safe to get a key from within. The puzzle itself is a bit enigmatic, but not too hard -- finally looking at a walkthrough I found that I had been right all along, but the safe won't open.
Tried everything I could think, earlier saves, downloaded a saved game (which I suppose is for the non-remastered version considering it didn't work.)
Apparently it is a known bug with no real solution, at least based on what I managed to find online. What seems pertinent is that the puzzle will not reset when moved away from -- most walkthroughs say it should. I think the graphics might therefore be "desynced" from the gameplay itself, but I don't really know how this could be tested or if it even matters.
Another possibility is that the game expects some other flag or variable to be active, and for some ungodly reason this is the moment it decides to check for it -- I did examine pretty much everything in the museum and talked to all the police and so forth, so I find this to be unlikely. (I had a similar situation just before the museum, I guessed museum to be the next target immediately, but I had to go to the gallery and look at all the four paintings before Holmes allowed me to actually get it)
I decided to post here in case someone encountered it also and might have discovered a solution, or could throw an actual remastered gog-version savegame my way.
It is a terrible shame since I've enjoyed the rest of the game a lot so far. The environments are surprisingly pretty for its age.
Anyway, thanks in advance!
