I just started Dragonfall Director's Cut yesterday for the first time and like it a lot so far. I'm looking forward to playing Hong Kong afterwards.

Apparently there will be a DLC mini-campaign that takes place after the events of Hong Kong and it will be released at the end of 2015. Does anyone know if all characters from HK will be used and imported to the mini-campaign? Does the game feel deliberately shorter (for lack of a better phrase) because of the upcoming mini-campaign? I hope it's just extra stuff instead of a small part that completes the game.

I paid more than that for this game, I would be annoyed that I have to pay more for the DLC if it turns out as essential to the story.

The Hong Kong Story completes itself without any additional questions. You probably won't need to buy the DLC if you don't want to.

This is good news. Although I'd like it free since I pre-ordered, I'd probably still plonk down more cash for it.

While the game is definitely "finished" at the end of the current Hong Kong campaign, you do end up with a chunk of change, so good to see we'll be able to use it for something.

I don't even want to think of paying any more money for 4 hours long campaign DLC which was already funded through Kickstarter.

Ending of HK campaign as well as a whole game itself is absolutely atrocious in a very bad possible way. And this super option to *negotiate* with the last boss, oh come on, who in his right mind would do that??? I mean even if you're playing extremely cruel and aggressive character nothing can justify even the thought of wanting to have an *audience*, it's preposterous!!!
Awful-awful game with boring characters and ton of typos and and (too many double "and"s), and a cliffhanger ending.

I don't f@cking understand why in the hell I couldn't get money to better staff my team, I did each and every mission objects on next to last mission and receive my reward... wait for it... before game ending credits! Oh thanks so f@cking much I really needed those 5k to buy another drone or at least a good DMG+20 sniper rifle for Duncan.

They are just stupid!!! Jordan Weisman you should be ashamed of it (actually I haven't seen your name in credits)!

After so goodly done Returns and Dragonfall this is a total disaster!

I have to agree with you on the amount of cash you get - it's pathetic. In DF you had enough cash to easily donate to Samuel and/or hire the occasional freelancer if you really wanted to. In HK there's no point in even showing us the option to hire them, since they all cost 450 (!!) and you barely have enough cash for yourself.

And the 5K would have made much more sense BEFORE the final battle, and not after.

Apart from that I wouldn't call the game "atrotious", although the staggering amount of grammar/typos did get grating after a while. Also I magically lost the laser sniper rifle after lending it to Duncan which kind of sucked - would have thought that kind of bug would be fixed by now since they had similar issues with DF originally.

I have no problem with the negotiation at the end, since it's a Yama King and that's their weakness. They're magical and bound by certain laws. Plus, 14 years of good luck - if you're kind of evil that option makes sense IMO.

I didn't mind the main characters (your runners, Bao, Kindly), plus Ambrose was kind of cool. Though Gobbet got kind of annoying I have to say. Didn't mind Law too much either since he doesn't babble on - unlike the damn Ka Fais who drove me nuts. Didn't really care what Shen had to say either. The game could have done with less dialog in the hub area - a lot less.

There seems to be a big section missing though - the part where Is0bel just happens to know someone who has something that can stop mind-wipes and she happens to know where she lives in meat space, despite the fact that she's supposed to be extremely elusive and has many parties after her. Blitz took forever to even get in contact with her, never mind actually tracking her down, and now she's on the run (even more so), and so she tells someone she hardly knows where she lives and most of her life story? That was a bit far-fetched.

So yeah, while the DF characters were definitely more interesting overall, and the spelling/grammar wasn't even spell-checked, and the new matrix has shitty mechanics and the new spirit control system is lame - I'd still consider this a good game. Not up to the par of DF (at all), but still better than the original SRR. And the new drones, spells, unique weapons and cyber etc. are pretty cool. It does need a fair bit more polish though.
It could use a bit more content I agree. But I think it's worth the $20 I paid for it too. I'm listening to the soundtrack while typing this, and I like quite a few tracks from it.

I do hope they fix a few things and add a bit more. Depending on the length and price of the DLC I may or may not put money down for that. My brother was a kickstarter backer so he's getting it for free, I might just get it off of him.

DF was a better game and I'm sure I'll replay it again, already replayed it a whole bunch. But this is a solid game. Not too many good games get released these days, and haven't for awhile, so I don't want to be too critical. It's worth the money and just is a good game by any metric.

The Yama Kings aren't really as cool as a dragon. I'm not familiar with the Shadowrun lore, I've only played the games, but DF made me think magic and dragons were a huge part of this world. And no matter what you did in DF, the elves I think locked away? And there were magical beings that were coming. I thought this game would be about the dragon that had work for you in Hong Kong at the end of DF. But that seems to have been sort of dropped. Also no real mention of what went down in DF, while DF did have references to DMS in the BBS.

Kindly Cheng isn't as good as your fixer from DF, and the DF companions really were better too. Gaichu and Ractor are interesting but needed a bit more to really flesh them out.

I don't understand why the gear doesn't have any stat upgrades either. No Schockwellenreiter runs, no Lodge type missions, no real upgrades to even doing companion missions, you generally don't see anyone from your runs again, you don't even get e-mails from them.

I think these things will get addressed with patches maybe? I played DF after all the patches were out already, but my brother told me the companion missions were added later and a bunch of things were changed actually. So maybe the same for this too?

The whole game was "funded by Kickstarter". Note that Kickstarter backers will get the "Shadows of Hong Kong" for free, but yes it will probably be sold as DLC for non-backers who want it. It was a stretch goal reward.

The reason gear no longer has stat upgrades is partly that a lot of players were complaining that this "forced" you to choose an outfit based on the bonuses, and not the style you wanted for your character... So now there are a few outfits that give 8 armor and you can choose whichever one looks the best without sacrificing bonuses that help your character. Also, I think outfits giving bonuses to stats just makes things too easy... You can still get many of the bonuses, through cyberware / bioware, or magical fetishes. Shadowrun Hong Kong is too easy anyway so adding more bonuses with outfits really isn't necessary.

In Dragonfall, there was a Director's Cut that added the companion missions, the lodge mission, and the mission for the doctor (to unlock some special bioware). The original DLC version of DF didn't have those missions or the improvements to combat mechanics.

Since they still have to make the mini-campaign, it seems unlikely to me that HBS will do a full fledged "DIrector's Cut" for Hong Kong, but if the game sells well enough and there's a lot of demand for certain features, who knows what the future holds?

Actually we do know that Battletech is going to HBS' next big game project.

Yeap I know it somehow, maybe because I used to check related Kickstarter page a lot. I will rephrase. Backers (15$ and up) got their game because they participated with their money, right? They will get 4 hours campaign as a compliment for 1,2 Mio$ as well. Others bought a game (again ~15$/less in CIS countries because we are poor and stupid), why the hell should they pay more for DLC? After all backers and other buyers in the same cash boat.

Good point. How many decent games were ruined because developers listened fans.

lol that is insanely idiotic. What's next, take away decking and charisma because it gives you other options besides fighting?

Set bonuses to armor adds uniqueness and encourages different builds and replays. It's not a gamebreaker or anything, but it's just nice. Plus for most of the armor, are we seriously arguing that a +1 INT or something FORCES someone to take that armor? Who cares, it's 1 point, it's irrelevant.

To be frank, I barely notice the armors anyway. I've replayed the game several times and used a few different armors, but after buying them I barely notice them. But it's like getting those crappy white armors with no stat boosts in an MMO. Just feels like something is missing not to have a stat change, even if it's something as minor as +1 in a stat. Who doesn't like green numbers?

Heh, yeah there is such a thing as listening too much, or listening to the wrong kinds of people.

Even though the stats not being there didn't affect things that much, it does make a build feel more "unique" - to me it makes sense that a decker wouldn't have as much armor as a street sam but possibly have an int or decking buff instead.

And yeah it doesn't "force" anything - if people want to min/max a certain style they should just deal with it.

There's actually some whinger on Steam requesting that there be separate "clothing" to armor, so that he can look like a ninja but have the best armor of 8 (I think the ninja suit gives 6 or something). Personally if he likes the look so much he should deal with the armor loss - it's not like that would make much difference. Or, he could use the money he would have spent on the better armor to buy the armor spell for a mage and bring them along.

I think there were also fans of the tabletop game who didn't like armor giving stat bonuses because this kind "doesn't happen in the tabletop game". I don't really have strong feelings about it either way... The stat bonuses generally didn't matter much anyway. My biggest complaint about SRHK is that the combat is too easy. There's a rumor going around (which I hope is true) that they will be adding a "very hard" difficulty" in a future patch.
