I've heard that Shadowrun HongKong will be receiving a new content update in a next patch, that will give an extra 5 hours worth of gameplay, is it true? If so, that's kinda neat.

Wonder if that's the upcomin extra adventure DLC.
If so, it needs to be purchased separately, if not – sweet.

It's confirmed for sure it's free for all owners of the game. I'm wondering what else there will be, except that 5h gameplay.

It would be pretty cool if they handed it out to everyone free, but I thought it was free for kickstarter backers only.

I don't think anyone was expecting it - everyone assumed it would be free to backers and paid DLC to everyone else. It's a nice move on their part.

Sounds great - but is it possible to play with my savegames from the normal game? I've played some hours some months ago and I'd like to continue. Is that possible with the new version of the game?

Yes, you can still continue on from a prior save.

In fact it seems not only you can but you should (taken from backer update #43):
To play the bonus campaign: after updating to the latest version of the game, select “New Game” from the main title screen menu (see below) to find the new campaign and continue your adventure! Note: You must have completed the main Shadowrun: Hong Kong campaign in order to play Shadows of Hong Kong. When you start Shadows of Hong Kong you will be able to select a high-karma character to import from any valid "final save" file to continue the story with.

Cool beans.

Looks like it has to be a full download and re-install. Not too big of a deal, but I'll have to get it tomorrow.

Might as well replay the game again.

I thought the original was a little short, although I was still satisfied with my purchase. But an extra 5 hours of game play really feels right.

There is a patch for Linux but nothing for Windows/Mac. Do we have to re-download the game?

Did they change anything in the original campaign or just added a bonus campaign to it? I only just started the game a week ago or so and wouldn't like to restart it either. Would I miss something if I just continued with the playthrough?

The bonus campaign is separate module, I played through the latter 1/3 of the original campaign yesterday as well as a new character up to the first run, I didn't notice any differences.

I'm fairly certain you won't miss anything by just continuing with your existing playthrough.
