Do my interactions with the party have any meaningful impact over how they react to me or each other in Dragonfall? After the rather railrod-esque OC, I had grown used to my interactions having only limited effects and expected more of it in the expansion. Given that Dragonfall seems to have broken away from that trend and seems a little more open ended, I'm honestly not sure what to expect. I plan on RPing it and not metagaming, but I just want a heads up in case this game pulls a NWN2 and it turns out that party members have hidden Influence meters.

You get to learn about their backstory and they will ask your advice about some decisions that they face which can have consequences outside the game, but it doesn't change the gameplay. They won't bail on you or anything like that.

Good to know, thanks. Also, I've just found a new Decker/Rigger. He hasn't been with the group long, but the presence of long term recruitable characters raises a couple of related questions. First, what's the party limit, and secondly, how many recruitable characters are there? I'd like to keep as many of them around as possible for their dialogue and story contributions, but I'm not sure how feasible that is under DF's engine.

He's the only long term recruitable character. The party limit is normally four including yourself, so you'll always have to leave one behind. But you won't miss out much on dialog/story by doing that as all the important conversations are in between missions. It's always a good idea to exhaust everyone's dialogue in between each mission, both NPCs and vendors.

Thanks for the info :)
It seems like to some extent, you actually get to invent your backstory as you go along. Or at least, I assume that it's not like one answer is the truth and the others are lies...
There are a couple of things worth noting that aren't covered in the original post and replies:

1) There is (and always was) a potential second long-term recruitable character, although not until somewhat later.

2) With Dragonfall: Director's Cut, the dialogues you have with Glory, Eiger, and Blitz can lead to additional side missions, potentially to new abilities or gear for those characters, and further changes in their personality (for better or for worse). Dietrich's personal storyline is also expanded on a little bit and can lead to some further ability development, but unlike the others he doesn't provide a new side mission (probably because there's already a relevant subplot in the Humanis mission).

Whoa, good info. Is it fairly obvious how to get these? Do you just take the big, obvious, "hey I'm interested" options every conversation at the base?

#1 sounds easy to miss, the way you word it. I definitely have opted, at times, to just give up and start shooting when I was broke and I didn't have the stat points for the right conversation options. I feel like I'm likely to miss out on hidden finesse rewards.
#1: The second recruitable party member isn't really hidden and is fairly easy to get as long as your character isn't a complete jerk; I'm just trying to avoid open spoilers by not naming them.

#2: You should generally talk to each of them about their thoughts and background after each mission you undertake. You'll need to push them all to varying degrees to get them to open up (although be a bit careful how you handle it), and it takes a while before you reach the point of their missions becoming available.

There's one guy who I thought might be recruitable, but your hint really makes it sound like it wasn't him after all. I went ahead and killed him after I knew about as much as I needed to about him...
Ok, yay. I got Recruitable #2. Now I'm a bit curious as to whether this is really so automatic. I used one build-dependent conversation option to make it work later on in the game, but you make it sound like even that isn't totally necessary. As in, you can fix it later if you don't immediately have the right tools?

There's one she I though might be, but maybe I was a complete jerk.

OK, who is it? Anybody? Go ahead and spoil.

Dante, the dog. It's fairly obvious when it finally happens. (Though there were two or three times before then that I thought someone else might join, but they turned out to be false leads - such as the "MKIV" quest - I'll leave it at that.)

If you're talking about someone from Glory's sidequest, then I think you can save her, but she never joins AFAIK. I failed at saving her, because it's a pretty difficult conversation to navigate.

... oh yea. Forgot that one. :)
Thought it coulda been that one street samurai chick in that one bar.
Might have been she was rentable recruit, dunno, never hired anyone but the companions.

I don't go to the bar often, but it might just be randoms selected from the hireables. I don't use them, either.

I thought it might be one guy you're supposed to kill who turns out to be a jerk, or maybe somebody's relative you meet on some other mission. I haven't finished the game yet, but the event where Dante joins has recently passed.
