it crashes upon startup. Any ideas?

Sadly, it's not compatible with OS X 10.9 or newer. It requires X11, which Apple no longer provides, and it hasn't been updated to work with XQuartz, which is X11's designated successor in OS X.

I really wish that either the developer would make the (probably very simple) modification to use XQuartz, or that GOG pull it from their store. The Steam version has the same issue, but there at least it's clearly labeled as not working on newer versions of the OS.

It's an ugly workaround, but I can verify that the Windows version does work under Boot Camp.

GOG really needs to pull the Mac version from their store.
