HeresMyAccount: I see the only difference with special edition is some extra bonus stuff. I don't know that I care about the music (I'm not even sure how good it is) or the rest of the stuff, but then I noticed the map.
- Is it a detailed map or just like an image of the world with a few things on it? Also, is it necessary to follow the map?
- Is this the kind of game where you get lost for lack of a good map and I would otherwise have to make my own?
I can't say anything about the quality of the bonus features, but they don't seem worth the price to me. A number of people feel differently, but since you don't seem interested in most of them, I would recommend just buying the regular game (like I am going to do in a few minutes).
As for the map, I've currently only played the original game on the NES, and a map was definitely not necessary. It may be a nice addition, since if you get briefly lost and waste movements your torches will dwindle down a little, but you'll probably be more concerned with solving the puzzles rather than getting lost. The castle wasn't huge in scale anyway, and each area is pretty distinct. This updated version has more rooms than the original, but I still don't expect a map to be a requirement at all. Someone who has played through this version can add a more definite answer though.
You have a few more days to decide before the sale is over, so you can wait and see what others think if you're still on the fence. You can also buy the regular version, then update to "special edition" later, and lose only $2 (if you update during a sale).
Have a great day, and a great Halloween weekend!
