I just bought and downloaded Shadowgate, as the 75% discount was too good to pass on, and even though I'm absolutely loving the game, I have to keep playing it windowed, something I don't enjoy doing when playing video games, because any time I try going fullscreen my mouse only works on approximately 3/4 of the screen, effectively preventing me from advancing in the story, as anything that's on the right 1/4 of the screen is automatically unclickable...

I was wondering whether this is a known issue, and if there's a way to work around it, as I would very much like to play it fullscreen...

I'm running on Windows Vista 32-bit, Pentium Dual Core T4200 @2GHz, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500 and 3GB RAM, if it helps.

Thanks in advance!

I have the exact same issue as you, Groze. I cannot point the mouse to my right had side of the screen, thus it is impossible to click the X's on most pop-ups. I googled the problem but cannot find anything related to the issue at all! This game looks awesome, and it would be great if anyone knew how to fix this. I have Windows 8.1 though.

I played around with the settings of the game and upped the resolution one notch. This incresed the space I can move my mouse significantly. Now there is only a centimeter on my right hand of side of the screen I cannot touch while in fullscreen mode, this is miles away from a gamebraking issue but it sure is annoying.

Yeah, the game sorted itself out for me, as well... I had tried the same thing you described, but then I restarted my computer and somehow Shadowgate was running on my native desktop resolution the next time I started the game, and now I can play fullscreen with no pointer issues whatsoever, as long as I don't mess with the resolution again -- if I do, my native resolution is no longer listed in the options again, and I lose the chance to revert back to it, while the mouse thing keeps occurring on the preset resolutions...

Same thing happened to me too, odd. Case closed... I guess?

Marked your post as the solution as I don't think anyone is remotely interested in solving this, and the issue kind of sorted itself out for both of us, so... yeah.

:P
I have the same problem but the game didn't automatically scale to my screens resolution. Unfortunately I can't click the apply button to manually adjust the resolution as my mouse will not go that far down. I can't even switch it off full screen.
I would NOT mark this as SOLVED! I have done what was said, that is restart my computer, and I still have only the top 3/4 of my screen (in full screen mode) available for my mouse.. The "it took care of itself" answer is NOT a solution to the problem.

Does anyone ELSE have a REAL solution to this problem. Right now I have to uninstall the game, and reinstall to get it out of the full screen mode. Not how I want to run the game I just bought.
I now have the real solution, or at least it worked for me. I went to the Steam community forum for this answer. (Since I can't post a link to the discussion, just look for the post called "Reset resolution?" in the Shadowgate General discussion.)

For Windows users: if you go to the Shadowgate folder in your documents folder ([drive]:\Users\{yourname]\Documents\Zojoi\Shadowgate), you will find a file called "settings.xml". Open it in a text editor and edit the <Width> and <Height> settings to your native desktop screen, and make sure that <Fullscreen> is set to "true". Example below:

<Resolution>
<Width>1280</Width>
<Height>1024</Height>
</Resolution>
<FullScreen>true</FullScreen>

These are the lines from my settings.xml file, and they are working very well to solve the problem for me. No need to go into Regedit as setting anything there will just be overwritten in memory by the settings.xml file.

For Mac and Linux user: I'm sorry but you will have to come up with your own solution if you have the same problem. But I suspect that you will have a similar file somewhere on your computer.
I'm sorry for having marked another reply as the solution, I admit I'm not the most patient of people and when it's been two days and no one addresses this issue I start to think not that many players experience it, especially when most GOG subforums are usually very helpful and active when it comes to solving tech issues (sometimes it's indeed the only thing they're good for, actually, as I've started threads for users to discuss the games themselves with limited to no adherence whatsoever).

If I could unmark a post as solution and tag another one, I would, but as it stands, all I can do is sincerely apologize and to thank you, lordgryphon, for providing a fix for Windows users, at least.

Just wanted to say that this solution works, thank you.

It does work, but I found the quickest route to finding the correct file was to use Shadowgate\settings in my search bar. This took me straight to the settings file. I then selected to Edit rather than Open. Alterations are easily made and voila!

Fantastic fix. Thank you lordgryphon
