Jottle: I followed the instructions to a T, but my installation still looks all pixelated with the supplied config file and the updated version of doxbox. It just looks like the original gog installation for some reason.
I have the same exact problem...
Well the original gog download appears to be the CD-rom version of Shadow Warrior without the 3dfx glide patch.

So I would venture to guess in order to get glide support you'd have to patch it first with the retail cd 3dfx patch.

Also keep in mind to actually load actual glide support you'll have to use the SW3DFX.exe. If you can get it to work, it should have texture smoothing on all surfaces. Eliminate all the pixellation. IIRC, there should also be water and glass transparency in many places.

Thanks for the pointer; I've tried loading from the dosbox environment, but alas to no avail... It's strange that I can't seem to find a lot of information on the net about this. I'll keep trying and report back when I find something.

Updated first post. Check it out. Think all will like.
Stix your photos still seem to show non-3DFX vesa-only version of the game. Absolutely no texture smoothing on the surfaces.

Have you installed the 3DFX patch, and tried to mess around to get it working? Because that's the first stepl and only way you will get true glide experience. You need to somehow activate the 3DFX glide API using the SW3DFX.exe. No one has figured it out yet though.

I tried with 3dfx actually and its very buggy...practically none playable. & it only supports a max resolution of 800x600.

It's very unfortunate that it can't be used though, even at 800x600 the texture smoothing and some of the other 3dfx-only special effects looks really nice.

Sounds like you got further than most if you were able to get past the 'memory' issue.

The SWP, and JONIF stuff were supposed to transfer the game to a modern engine that would allow for higher resolutions and access the bells and whistles like texture smoothing. Unfornuately seems they no longer work on win vista or windows 7 or 8 platforms. Must have been made for XP only.

I don't even see any memory issues... How do you start the 3DFX version of the game? Executing the sw3dfx11 exe (within dosbox) doesn't do it, in any case.

ya it does you jest have to know how to execute it properly.

Usually to execute said program you also have to have said folder with entire game mounted to the same drive
Well, it executes, but there's not a single difference with the original sw exe.

Anyway, on to some more fiddling :)
Laundromat which version of Dosbox are you using?

The SW3DFX.exe will default to SW.exe if it doesn't detect the 3Dfx api. You'll need something like Dosbox Daum version that has 3Dfx emulation incorporated for it even to try see the api. I can get as far as it detecting the 3dfx emulation, but then it tosses up the memory issue.
