There is nothing different, like damage or range. It's all about looks and funny moment.

Darts were added to the UK release as the BBFC (who used to classify games) had a blanket ban on shurikens and nunchuks. Only the original .exe was changed though, and I think you could download a patch from 3D Realms to uncensor it.
Due to this bizarre restriction we also got "Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles" complete with a rerecorded theme song.
